Chapter 651

"Haley, weren't you at the hospital? Why are you back suddenly?"

Brenda changed her shoes and came over, habitually holding Haley's hand, then she was startled. "Why is your hand so cold? Don't get sick again. Come on, go upstairs and find a coat to put on."

Haley pulled her hand away.

The bright lights in the living room shone on her face, making the indifference in her eyes, the bloodshot veins, and the cold smile at the corner of her mouth, all clearly visible.

Brenda finally sensed something was wrong. She put down her handbag, taking a deep breath, and said, "Haley, what happened?"

"You already knew, didn't you?"

Haley's words made Brenda's face change dramatically.

Brenda's fingers tightened as she forced herself to stay calm. "Haley, what do you mean by that? What do you mean by 'I already knew'?"

"Your twin sons, both precious to you, I don't understand why you were so heartless to send your eldest son away back then, and I don't understand why, after more than twenty years, you could help your eldest son kill Ivan." Haley's face bore a strange cold smile. "Brenda, Ivan called you 'mom' for over twenty years. How could you watch him die?"

"No, it's not like that!"

Brenda shook her head violently.

Tears fell from her eyes as she covered her mouth in despair. "Haley, it's not like that. How could I kill Ivan? He's my son, my biological son. How could I watch him die? I was really out of options, Haley. What could I do? I was desperate too..."

Brenda's body went limp, collapsing onto the sofa as she cried softly.

Haley's heart plummeted.

She had always held onto a sliver of hope, believing that Ivan wasn't dead.

But Brenda's demeanor spoke volumes...

Haley didn't even realize when her own tears started falling. By the time she noticed, her face was already streaked with tears.

"Haley, I was really at my wit's end back then. Martin had a heart condition, and the doctors said he wouldn't live past one year old. I had no choice but to send him away. I'm a mother; the person in this world who couldn't bear to part with Martin the most was me."

Brenda sobbed uncontrollably. She had kept the events of those years buried inside her, and now she finally found an outlet.

"Martin was born with poor health, but the Winston family abandoned him. We owe him. It's only natural that he hates the Winston family. Over the years, I've been wanting to compensate Martin, but he's always elusive, living outside the realms of normalcy. t's been difficult for me to even see him..."

"Martin has suffered for over twenty years, always living in darkness. Now he finally gets to experience a normal life. Haley, please don't expose him. Let him live like a normal person, okay? I've already lost one son; I can't lose another..."

Brenda clutched Haley's sleeve, but Haley shook her off forcefully.

"What about Ivan? Who will fight for his justice?"

Brenda wept bitterly. "Ivan is already dead. He's dead. What can I do? I just want the living to live happily..."

Haley's eyes were full of disappointment.

Because one son died, Brenda could tolerate whatever the other son did, no matter how evil it was?

But Haley wasn't so kind.
