Chapter 707
Haley was momentarily stunned.
She thought she had misheard, but seeing Todd and Keith glaring at Owen, she knew she hadn't.
Haley took a deep breath and asked, "Is Leonardo your friend?"
"Yeah, that's him!" Owen said, all excited. "I even heard Keith say this guy's super powerful, like the boss around here. Keith and Todd are gonna ask this Leonardo guy to help us find Dad."
Haley stared at Todd and said slowly, "Todd, spill it."
Todd pursed his lips, knowing he couldn't hide the truth any longer.
If he had known, he wouldn't have let Owen join their talk.
Todd looked up and said, "Mom, you know I'm a hacker. During a mission, I met Leonardo and helped him out a few times, so we became friends. It wasn't until I got to Hinterlands that I found out he was the leader here, but he doesn't know who I really am yet."
"That's good." Haley sighed in relief. "Then let someone else go instead of you two."
It was too dangerous for the kids to meet the leader of the Black Gang.
Haley couldn't bear to let any of her kids take such a risk.
Thomas said seriously, "I'll send two bodyguards in your place. Tell me exactly how you met Leonardo and what you've been through together."
"Bodyguards can't replace professional hackers," Haley said, frowning. "Why don't I go? I know some hacking techniques and won't blow my cover."
"It's too dangerous," Thomas disagreed. "If you openly negotiate with him while secretly being friends with him as a hacker, someone like Leonardo will definitely think you're up to something."
Todd clenched his fingers.
Haley definitely wasn't going to let him and Keith meet Leonardo now.
But as Thomas said, if Haley showed up in front of Leonardo with two identities, she'd definitely be suspected of being a spy.
He couldn't let Haley take that risk.
"Mom, I have another partner," Todd said quietly. "He's vacationing nearby. I'll ask him to come over."
Keith immediately got who Todd was talking about and added, "That guy knows Leonardo too, so it should be fine."
Haley patted the kids' heads. "Then cancel the meeting with Leonardo for now and reschedule for tomorrow."
"Okay, Mom."
Todd nodded and took his phone to the balcony to make a call.
Haley changed her shoes and walked into the house, looking at Todd's back with a complicated expression.
Todd had done a lot behind her back, and she knew some of it, but she never looked into it closely.
Haley hadn't expected Todd to know the leader of the world's most powerful organization.
If she had been a step later getting into the room, Todd and Keith would have met Leonardo.
When she was close to Leonardo, she didn't actually feel he was dangerous, but she knew for sure that for Leonardo to be in that position, he had to be ruthless, violent, and bloodthirsty.
"Haley, it's not just the kids. You shouldn't meet Leonardo either," Thomas said in a low voice. "When I was waiting for you outside, do you know how scared I was? Someone like Leonardo isn't someone ordinary people can mess with. If he really forced you, I wouldn't know what to do. Not just Leonardo, Isabel is also a tough character. Offending either of them would make things very difficult for us."
Haley understood his concern and said softly, "If Todd's plan works out, then I really won't need to deal with Leonardo anymore. Don't worry. I'll protect myself."
The night passed quietly.
Dawn came early in Hinterlands. In the morning mist, a figure slowly approached.
He was a young man in his thirties with fair skin and blonde hair, carrying a travel bag. He stopped at the mansion's entrance, spat on his hands, and climbed over the mansion's wall.
