Chapter 162

Eva quickly passed the performance report to her.

Haley flipped through the pages, her lips curling into a frosty smirk.

The report consisted of peer evaluations, management scores, and finally the administrative department's rating. Mia's scores from peers and management were dismal, not even reaching twenty points, but somehow the admin department had granted her a perfect score of one hundred.

This pattern of fraudulent grading was so blatant over the past two years. Or perhaps Emily believed that no one would dare to question it, so they didn't even bother to construct plausible forgeries?

"Per the DeRoss Group's policy, three consecutive months of poor performance results in termination," Haley said coolly. "Now, you can collect this month's wages from administration."

Mia's eyes widened. "You're firing me? On what grounds, Haley?"

"The grounds laid out in these performance reports," Haley replied icily, tossing them onto the table. "Twenty months of failure, and I'm being generous not going after your undeserved pay. You have thirty minutes to leave."

"I'm not going anywhere!" Mia shot back, seething. "You're abusing your power for personal vendettas!"

Haley merely smiled. "And why, pray tell, would I have a vendetta against you?"

"Because I'm friends with Emily, you're purging your rivals," Mia spat through clenched teeth. "If Emily finds out how you treated me, she won't let you off the hook."

Haley shrugged nonchalantly. "That's your call."

She picked up her cup and walked to the break room for water, completely dismissing Mia, who was nearly grinding her teeth to dust with rage.
Countless eyes were fixed on her as she stood there—a mix of schadenfreude, fear of guilt by association, and sighs of relief peppered the crowd.

"What're you looking at, huh? There's nothing to see!" Mia bellowed, her voice laced with rage. "Just you wait, it won't be long before you're all getting the boot, too!"

She stormed out without bothering to pack her things, cellphone clutched tightly in hand.

Furrowing her brow with concern, Eva stepped into the manager's office. "Haley, I'm worried that firing her on the spot might bring trouble..."

Taking a sip of lukewarm water, Haley responded nonchalantly, "Doesn't the head of customer service have the right to fire an employee?"

"That's not what I mean..." Eva lowered her voice, "Haley's the heir to the DeRoss Group, and Mr. Ye holds her in high esteem. That's why she was appointed general manager. Even though Haley's no longer with the company, she's left plenty of her people in various departments. If they decide to make things hard for our team, it'll be tough to get anything done."

"Don't worry, I've got this."

A slight curve graced Haley's lips.

Eva felt a pang of astonishment.

Despite being years younger, Haley exuded an aura of maturity and strength.

Eva, almost reaching thirty, found herself oddly comforted by that smile.

She began to believe what they say in those business books—some people are just natural-born leaders, and Haley definitely had that gift.

Before today, Eva might have harbored resentment about a potential demotion, but from this moment on, her heart was at peace.

To work under Haley could be a stroke of luck...

Meanwhile, Emily received a call from Mia.

"Emily, your sister is horrendous!" Mia wailed. "Her first day in customer service and she publicly humiliates me, then fires me on the spot! Sure, I'm not the most capable, but being fired is one thing! But Emily, I'm your best friend. Everyone knows we're closer than sisters. Her doing this to me is like slapping you in the face! It's not my hurt feelings that matter; I'm worried you'll suffer from office gossip..."

Emily's eyes narrowed. "What did you just say? Haley fired you? How dare she?"
