Chapter299

It was after nine at night that Haley returned to her room after putting the kids to bed and dialed Madam DeRoss's number.

Madam DeRoss had health issues and often went to bed late. When Haley called, the elderly lady was watching TV.

"Haley, why are you calling so late?"

Haley pursed her lips. "Grandma, I have a question for you."

After a brief pause, she continued slowly, "Does Emily have two sons?"

Madam DeRoss paused, then let out a sigh. "That's right. Five years ago, she got pregnant out of wedlock and had twins. Your scandal was all anyone talked about back then, so your father and stepmother managed to keep her story under wraps. Aside from our own family, hardly anyone knows."

Haley clenched her fingers and asked, "Can I know the names of the children?"

"They're the Winston twins, one named Keith and the other Owen," said Madam DeRoss, "Emily had the boys for the Winstons, and from the day they were born, they were raised by the Winston family. Now, the children are just over four years old, and I've seen them so few times I could count them on my hands... Those two aren't close to our DeRoss family... Haley, when you have a chance, bring your son and daughter to see me, will you?"

Haley felt her heart sink bit by bit.

She took a deep breath. "Okay, Grandma, it's getting late. You should rest."

After hanging up, she walked to the balcony and drew back the curtains. Her piercing, cold eyes stared blankly into the dark starry sky.

She could come to terms with Keith being Emily's son, but she couldn't accept that Keith was Emily and Ivan's child.

'Why does it have to be this way?'

Haley sighed deeply.

'Have I gotten too close to Ivan that I'm now harboring some forbidden thoughts? This is the man that has been with Emily. Yet, here I am, fantasizing about him. I must have lost my mind.'

Haley scoffed, pulling the curtains shut.

She tossed and turned all night, only managing to doze off as dawn began to break. When the alarm rang, she sat up in bed, exhausted.

Todd sensed something was off with her mood and asked with concern, "Mommy, did you not sleep well last night?"

"I was busy with work until 3 AM. I didn't really get a good night's rest." Haley yawned. "I'll catch a nap at the office later."

"Mommy, it's getting colder. Make sure you dress warmly," Todd reminded her sweetly.

Haley put on an extra coat and then took the children out the door.

After dropping them off at preschool, she headed straight to the office.

With the company's new product launch, everyone was bustling around, and as the CEO, she had even more on her plate.

She was absorbed in work until five in the afternoon.

Driving to pick up the kids from preschool, Haley was entangled in her thoughts.

She had an arrangement with Ivan. He would introduce her to Leo Sherwood, and she would cook for Owen at the Winston residence.

Lately, she made her way to the Winston residence every day after work, where the children seemed to be getting along better and better.

She thought this routine would go on for much longer.

But now, she didn't want to go anymore.

Owen was Emily's son, and she couldn't understand why she should cook for Emily's boy.

Her mind wrestled with these thoughts until she arrived at the preschool.

After Todd and Angela got into the car, she noticed the little girl holding a drawing. With a gentle voice, she asked, "Angela, what do you have there?"

The girl unveiled the drawing—a simple doodle.
