Chapter 157

Nicholas measured his words carefully, speaking slowly, "I admire Haley’s design philosophy. She's embraced an entirely new approach to programming, shattering conventional modules and merging them into fresh code protocols. It's quite daring..."

Ivan nodded, his eyes revealing a hint of respect.
Though not deeply entrenched in coding, he was confident enough to assert that programmers bold enough to draft such plans were a rare breed worldwide.
Haley had truly impressed him.
He tossed the proposal back, "Risk has its rewards. Let's stick with this draft for now. Keep the ball rolling on this project."
With that, Ivan headed straight into the CEO's office.

Luke gave Nicholas a pat on the shoulder, "Mrs. Winston is really bullish on this project. If you nail it, Nicholas, you might even score a promotion and a raise!"
Nicholas managed a wry smile.
Mrs. Winston wasn't tech-savvy; naturally, she was oblivious to the risks lurking behind the glitzy project facade.
He'd been in the IT game for well over a decade and had the smart tech market down to a science; this strategy was simply unworkable.
As lovely as the vision was, its implementation spelled nothing but frustration.

Returning to the tech department with a bitter expression, Nicholas bumped into Noah, the assistant manager.
Concerned, Noah inquired, "You look troubled, Nicholas. What's up?"
"How many projects are on your plate right now, Noah?" Nicholas asked, locking eyes with him.
Noah stroked his chin thoughtfully, "Just wrapping up a backend maintenance project. I was about to check with you for any new assignments, actually."
"Here, this is the Winston Group's next quarter A-F Smart Car initiative. It's all yours. If you get stuck, I'm here to help."
Nicholas handed the stack of documents to Noah and swiftly returned to his office.
Noah called out cheerfully, "Thanks, Nicholas!"

As Nicholas entered his office, his assistant approached with concern, "This project was a direct assignment to you by Mrs. Winston. Aren't you worried she might be less than pleased if you delegate it to Assistant Manager Noah?"
"The Winston Group's backend needs an update and upgrade. It’s paramount to the entire company," Nicholas responded calmly, "Noah has the skills but lacks experience. Handling the A-F project could be a great learning opportunity for him. Consider it on-the-job training."
The assistant complimented him, "Always so generous, Nicholas. You never stop thinking about nurturing your team."
Nicholas gave a silent, wry twist of his lips. The A-F project was a non-starter; he might as well use the time for something worthwhile. And as for Noah, well, trial and error was par for the course for the young. It was the only way they'd learn to stand on their own two feet.

In the CEO's office, just as Ivan sank into his chair, his cellphone began to buzz on the desk. Glancing at the caller ID, his usually stern expression softened, "Mom, why are you calling at this hour?"

Back home, it was morning, but in Australia it was noon, a time his mother typically spent lunching.

"Have you given any thought to what we talked about last time?" Mrs. Winston asked casually over her afternoon tea.

Pinching the bridge of his nose, Ivan replied, "The kids are settled back home. If you're missing them, why not move back?"
