Chapter 1004
Cherry blinked her big eyes, trying hard to hold back the tears.
Camilla's phone buzzed. She picked it up, then walked over to Cherry with a sad look. "I gotta go now, Cherry. Can I get a goodbye kiss?"
Cherry hugged her tight. "Camilla, I don't want you to leave."
Just thinking about Camilla leaving made her tears start to fall.
"Hey, be good. Don't cry. I'll come back to see you."
"But Debra said I might get adopted today, and then I won't see you anymore."
"I'll find out where your new home is, and I'll visit you," Camilla said with a smile. "You're so sweet and cute. If you keep crying, you'll get all puffy."
Cherry sniffled and tried to stop crying.
Camilla gave her a pat on the head and left reluctantly. Right after she left, a couple rode up to the orphanage on their bikes.
They looked like they were in their thirties. The guy seemed straightforward and honest, and the woman had a gentle and dignified vibe. Imogen greeted them warmly.
If a kid from the orphanage got adopted, it was a win for everyone.
Imogen did her best to help with the adoption, and the couple was definitely looking to adopt. The boys left in the orphanage either had heart issues or were deaf and mute. After thinking it over, the couple decided on Cherry.
"Sir, ma'am, please adopt me." Debra nudged Cherry aside and stepped forward. "I'm Debra, almost four. I'm really good and obedient. I can sweep, wash clothes, and do chores. Please take me with you."
She widened her eyes and squeezed out a few tears.
The man, Colin Hernandez, who always listened to his wife. He turned to her and asked, "Celeste, what do you think of this girl?"
Celeste Brooks gently shook her head. "She's too clever and cunning. We can't handle her."
She looked over the group of kids. All the girls were smiling at her with hopeful eyes, except for Cherry, who was about three, wearing a goose-yellow dress that made her skin look healthy. Cherry kept her head down, trying to stay unnoticed.
From this angle, Celeste could see Cherry's thick, curly eyelashes, like little fans.
"I like this little girl."
Celeste pointed. Seeing Colin nod, she waved, "Little girl, come over and let me have a look at you."
Cherry lifted her head, looking unsure.
"Cherry, go on! This lady likes you!" Imogen urged.
The orphanage hadn't had a girl adopted in three years since most couples wanted boys.
If Cherry got adopted, it might bring more childless couples to the orphanage. As the director, Imogen's biggest dream was to give every child a happy family.
Cherry didn't dare look at Debra and slowly walked over.
"Your name is Cherry, right? You're so pretty. Can you show me around the orphanage?" Celeste squatted down and asked gently. Imogen had mentioned that they should let Cherry show them around to build a connection before the adoption.
