Chapter 731
Leonardo said calmly, "Donovan, help me settle them down first. We'll talk after I recover."
Donovan nodded and asked Eli to handle it.
"You can go now too," Leonardo added.
Donovan lowered his voice. "I've got info on some spies. You should check it out now."
Leonardo squinted and opened the file.
The first page listed the names of over a dozen spies, and among them, he saw a person from H Country, Haley Deross.
"Haley Deross is the beauty who's been around Hinterlands lately," Donovan whispered. "She's a special forces spy from Country H, aiming to acquire resources from this area."
"Got it," Leonardo said coldly, closing the file. "Leave."
Donovan's eyes flickered. He'd done his part; whether Leonardo believed him or not wasn't his problem.
Donovan bowed and left the room.
After finishing her call with the kids in the bathroom, Haley was about to come out when she saw someone outside.
She heard voices but couldn't make out the words.
Once the last person left, she stepped out.
Leonardo's gaze fixed on her, noticing the faint kiss marks on her neck from their intimate moments.
He realized he'd let a woman he barely knew into his life in just a few days.
"I still don't know your name," Leonardo asked softly.
"My name is Haley Deross, you can call me Haley," she said, sitting by the bed. "I haven't finished what I wanted to say earlier."
She looked earnestly at Leonardo. "I've been searching for my husband, only to be disappointed again and again. Just when I was about to give up, I saw your face. In that moment, I felt like God was looking out for me. I feared my husband was dead, but now I know he's alive."
Her words lit up something deep within Leonardo.
After a month in this dark place, he'd only seen the worst of humanity.
He'd never seen anyone with such light in their eyes.
"Leonardo, your real name is Ivan Winston. You live in Watertown, Country H. You're twenty-six, have a wife and four kids, and disappeared on your wedding day, gone for a month."
As Haley spoke, she noticed something off in Leonardo's expression.
"What's wrong? Did I say something wrong? Don't you believe me?"
Leonardo stayed calm. "Just ten minutes ago, someone told me almost the same thing. They said I was from Country H, but my name was Philip Powell, and my family ran a lumber business. My parents even came looking for me."
"Impossible!" Haley said coldly. "Why don't you do a paternity test with the kids? Once the results are out, you'll understand everything."
Leonardo handed her a paternity test report from beside the pillow. "I've already done a paternity test with my parents."
Haley flipped to the last page, her face turning icy cold.
It seemed someone was trying to manipulate Ivan or use him, which is why they found a pair of parents and forged this paternity test report.
No matter what she said now, Leonardo probably saw her as just another deceiver.
