Chapter 242
A man's unhurried voice came from behind.
"Ms. Haley, what's the rush?"
Jeremy was approaching, step by step. Haley felt like a venomous snake was slithering up from her ankle, sending shivers down her spine.
She whispered gently, "Todd, take your sister and get in the car. Close the door. Mommy's got something to handle."
Todd helped Angela into the car and took a snap of Jeremy before closing the door.
Haley took a deep breath and turned around. Her tone was icy. "Mr. Jeremy, right? Let's have a quick chat."
She stepped aside, not wanting Todd to overhear the conversation with this man. This person was despicable and unworthy of being Todd and Angela's father.
Jeremy glanced at the two children sitting in the car. The boy was well-behaved and intelligent, the girl pretty. They were his children. It was unbelievable. Haley's story was just a Google search away.
After her scandal, she had been locked away by the DeRoss family for eight months. This meant that she couldn't possibly have slept with another man. The twins had to be his children.
"So, you know my name. This means you've been snooping around," Jeremy said with a chuckle, taking a drag of his cigarette. "You secretly had my kids, kept it from me for five years, never thought I'd come knocking, huh?"
Haley just smirked coldly in response, "Who said these kids are yours?"
"We can easily find that out with a paternity test," Jeremy remarked as he lit a cigarette. "Once I get those test results, I'll claim custody. Those twins are mine!"
A chill spread across Haley's face.
A paternity test was a court-admissible document. If Jeremy got his hands on it, a legal battle was inevitable. Her lips pressed into a thin line with fiery resolve, and she spat out, "In your dreams!"
Jeremy's expression turned icy as well. "Do you want to take this to court? Fine. Let's get lawyers involved. I refuse to believe I can't reclaim what's mine!"
With that, he crushed his cigarette butt under his heel and stormed off.
Haley clenched her fists in anger. She wouldn't go down without a fight. She returned to the car once she recollected herself.
Once she buckled in, Todd asked, "Mommy, who was that man?"
Haley froze for a moment before brushing it off. "He's just a business partner, nothing to worry about."
However, Todd persisted, lips tight with concern. "Then, why did he claim to be our dad?"
Her heart sank for a moment. Quickly conjuring an explanation, she replied casually, "He's been after me and wants to step in as your new dad, but I turned him down. So, he thought going to your school and getting close to you and your sister would win me over. Todd, remember his face, stay away from him, and never talk to him, okay?"
If the twins' father had been honorable, she would never have taken such drastic measures.
Jeremy was scum, unfit to be a husband, a father, or to appear before her children. Even if the kids needed a father's love, she would never compromise their well-being by allowing such a morally corrupt person into their lives...
In the car, both Haley and Todd were deep in thought.
Back home, Haley cooked in the kitchen, Angela practiced piano, and Todd snuck off to his room.
He uploaded a photo he had just snapped and did a quick search. Then, an entire page of news articles appeared...
With a frown, he began reading each article intently.
Suddenly, his eyes landed on a headline from five years ago.
"Congratulations to the Chase Group on their partnership with the King's Hotel in Cuenca, with a special invitation for CEO Jeremy Chase to stay in the Imperial Presidential Suite..."
This was also the day of his mom's 18th birthday celebration...
