Chapter 563
Madam Martinez frowned. "Did the Smith family receive an invitation to this wedding?"
Cauth felt a bit embarrassed. "No."
Cauth had come a day early to deliver the gift because he hadn’t received a wedding invitation.
He had gone to the Winston family but Haley wasn’t there, so he turned to the Martinez family.
"This is a wedding gift I prepared for Haley." Cauth took a small box from his pocket and opened the lid. "This emerald necklace suits you well. I hope you’ll accept it."
Haley's gaze fell on the necklace.
It was something Cauth had prepared to give her that day at the bridal shop, and it was also an accessory that Sankar had worn before.
"Why does this necklace look familiar?" Madam Martinez frowned, then chuckled. "I'm getting old. I've seen too many things, so everything seems familiar to me. I hope you don't mind."
Cauth smiled in a gentlemanly way and said, "Emeralds all look similar. It's normal for you to feel a sense of familiarity."
After he finished speaking, his gaze fell on Haley again, his eyes carrying a hint of anticipation.
Haley walked over and said, "Thank you for the gift, Mr. Smith."
Cauth was pleased. He quickly handed the item to Haley as if he was afraid she might change her mind. He stood up and said, "I have something else to attend to. Goodbye."
After that, he left.
Haley was silent. She hadn't even had the chance to give Cauth the wedding invitation. Why had he left so quickly?
Madam Martinez leaned in and said, "This necklace seems to have some history, but it doesn't seem to be anything valuable. Why did he come to give this to you in particular?"
"He still has feelings for Haley, of course!" Barbara walked in, swaying her hips, and mockingly said, "I'm really puzzled. Why do both young and old men like Haley? You may look pretty, but your personality is really unpleasant. If those men knew your true personality, they would definitely stay away from you!"
Haley closed the box, smiled wryly, and said, "You know I have a bad temper."
Barbara sneered and said, "You received a gift from another man the day before your wedding. If Ivan finds out, he definitely wouldn't want to marry you!"
"Shut up!" Madam Martinez shot a cold glance at her. "If you continue to say nasty things, go back to the Miller family!"
"Grandma, Barbara might not be able to go back to the Miller family," Haley said with a smile, putting the necklace in her pocket. "I heard that your husband brought his mistress home, and the Millers are particularly protective of that mistress."
"What?" Madam Martinez couldn't believe it. "Barbara, tell me, what's going on?"
Barbara's poorly maintained facade crumbled instantly under Madam Martinez's questioning.
Barbara covered her face and suddenly started crying. "How would I know what's going on? My husband suddenly brought his mistress home, and I can't do anything about it."
Even though Barbara was immature, she was still Madam Martinez's granddaughter. Madam Martinez was very angry and said, "Do the Millers think they can take advantage of a Martinez?"
Haley pursed her lips. She shouldn't have brought up the Miller family's situation to attack Barbara.
If she angered Madam Martinez, the final result would be worse.
Haley walked over, took Madam Martinez's arm, and softly said, "Grandma. Steven and May will handle this. You don't need to worry. Let me help you upstairs to rest."
Madam Martinez remained silent, allowing Haley to help her upstairs.
Barbara covered her face and cried loudly.
Her husband was carousing outside not even three years into her marriage, but she loved him too much, so she had been tolerating and giving in.
However, Barbara's husband had become increasingly outrageous, and Barbara had thought about divorce, but she couldn't bear to let the mistress win after the divorce. She would never let that happen!
