Chapter 251
Haley clenched her fingers nervously.
She had spilled her darkest secrets in hopes of securing Garrett's help.
Her confession was aimed at convincing Ivan to introduce her to Garrett.
If she could get Garrett to take her case, she was sure she could keep custody of her two kids.
Ivan's dark eyes flickered with a cold light.
He had always known she had children but never tied them to any man.
Now, hearing about their father, it hit him that the prerequisite of having kids meant intimacy with someone.
The thought of her past with another man five years ago, and the idea of her having children with someone else brought waves of anger crashing over him. It was almost suffocating.
He didn't know where such feelings came from. All he knew was that he was deeply unsettled.
He didn't believe that the sweet, lovely Angela and the clever, cunning Todd were Jeremy's children.
Angela called him 'Daddy.' He should be their father.
Jolted by the thought, Ivan snapped out of it.
He must have lost his mind, scaring himself with those thoughts.
"Mr. Ivan?" Finding him silent, Haley called out.
Swallowing hard, she slowly said, "If it's inconvenient for you, then never mind."
"It's no inconvenience," Ivan replied with a faint smile. "I'm just wondering why I should help you."
His response indicated there was room for negotiation, and Haley's anxious heart finally eased.
"Mr. Ivan." She smiled. "Just name your terms. As long as it's within my power, I won't refuse."
Ivan drummed his fingers, thinking what the terms could be.
There were none.
It was the unbreakable bond she had with Jeremy that unsettled him.
Suddenly, he felt he was being unreasonable.
He raised an eyebrow and noticed Owen.
Owen was picking at his head, deeply engaged in conversation with Todd. Todd said something offhandedly, and the kid frowned, looking utterly perplexed.
Ivan pressed his lips together then spoke up, "Owen really enjoys your cooking."
Haley's eyes lit up. "Does that mean you'd be willing to introduce me to Garrett if I take care of Owen's meals?"
The sparkle in her eyes made Ivan pause for a moment. He spoke up again, "I just need you to head over to our place every evening and make dinner for Owen."
Haley frowned. "But I still have to look after Todd and Angela..."
"Bring the kids with you to the Winston residence," Ivan said calmly, "After finishing dinner there, you can take them back home."
Haley pondered for a few seconds.
Cooking dinner at the Winston residence didn't seem like a big deal. Dining there with the kids didn't seem problematic either. It just meant she might have to interact with Ivan more frequently and possibly run into Emily.
