Chapter 455
A buzzing sound suddenly echoed in Hollis's ear.
She looked at Haley's design proposal, and her mind went blank.
She had been in this line of work for twenty years, and the more she looked at Haley's proposal, the more amazed she felt.
In that instant, it became clear to her why Sterling would dare to challenge the Lumi Group by opting for a lesser-known, modest newcomer.
Haley lifted her head, her expression resolute, and addressed Mrs. Lumi directly, "I would be grateful if you could enlighten me on the specifics of where you believe I have plagiarized."
The color drained from Hollis's face, leaving it ashen.
The very individuals who had been quick to support her and decry Haley suddenly found themselves at a loss for words, enveloped in an uneasy silence.
She clenched her fingers and took a deep breath, saying, "This incident today is just a misunderstanding."
"A misunderstanding?" Louis sneered. "Mrs. Lumi, even if it's a misunderstanding, shouldn't you apologize to Haley?"
A cloud shrouded Hollis's face.
She had never lowered her head to apologize to anyone in her entire life. It was difficult for her to swallow her pride and apologize to a young girl in her early twenties.
At that moment, the secretary standing behind her stepped forward and respectfully said, "This incident was negligence on our part at the Lumi Group. We accused Haley without clarifying the situation. This is our fault. On behalf of the Lumi Group and Mr. Lumi, I apologize to Haley."
Haley toyed with her highball glass and said, "Isn't Mr. Lumi here? Why do you have to apologize on his behalf?"
Her words sent a shiver down everyone's spine.
The Lumi Group in Watertown, a well-known family, had recognized Hollis when she was just sixteen years old, granting her an exceptional admission to Lindell Academy. At the age of twenty-two, she obtained her Ph.D. from Lindell Academy and then taught for five to six years before returning to China to work in a senior position at the Lumi Group.
In just three to four years, she defeated the Lumi Family's original heir and became the Lumi Group's leader for this generation.
A woman became the head of the family at the age of thirty, possessing the intelligence and tactics of a man. However, due to her beautiful appearance, people often forget that her tactics were no less than a man's.
The Winston Group was the largest conglomerate in Watertown, and Ivan was the most admired man.
Therefore, Hollis was the most admired woman in Watertown.
But now, Haley was forcing Hollis to apologize to her.
The people present needed to find out where Haley found the courage to confront Hollis, and they were curious about what choice Hollis would make.
A pair of eyes behind a silver mask turned slightly toward Haley's face.
There was a hint of curiosity in those cold eyes, and a smirk appeared on the corner of the mouth.
"Haley," Hollis spoke coldly, "until the matter is thoroughly investigated, you are highly suspicious."
Haley was almost laughing from anger. "So, even if Mrs. Lumi can't find any similarities, she still believes that I stole your design?"
"What else could it be?" Hollis countered, "My design went missing, and you could benefit from it. I have every reason to suspect that you are involved in this."
A subtle smile played on Haley's lips.
She advanced a single step, her eyes carrying a hint of frost. "Mrs. Lumi, you've held a venerable reputation in this industry for years, and I, as someone newer to the field, had no intention of causing a spectacle. However, since you persist in accusing me unjustly, I find myself compelled to stand my ground."
