Chapter 908
Brenda let out a quiet sigh and headed upstairs.
Haley shoved her hands in her pockets and trudged up the steps.
As soon as she cracked open the bedroom door, the stench of smoke hit her like a wall.
Martin was a chain smoker. Back when she had to deal with him every day, she was always choking on secondhand smoke.
She waited for the smoke to clear a bit before stepping in.
"Get out." Martin's eyes locked onto Brenda, spitting out the words.
Brenda's words got stuck in her throat. She didn't dare to defy Martin. She backed out of the room, glancing over her shoulder three times before shutting the door.
Haley stood at the door, her voice flat, "Why'd you call me here?"
Martin's eyes flicked to her hands, "Take your hands out."
Haley did as she was told.
"Take off your coat and toss it by the door."
Martin's voice was ice cold. Haley didn't argue. She shrugged off her coat and tossed it to the ground with a crisp sound.
"Hiding a knife again, Haley? Can't you come up with something new?"
Haley shot back with a sneer, "One knife's enough to deal with you."
Martin dug into his pocket and pulled out a black remote, "Know what happens if I press this red button?"
Haley's lips pressed into a thin line.
"I planted a bomb in the yard of Winston Villa. One press, and this place goes boom." Martin made a dramatic gesture, "The four kids are upstairs. Think they'll die instantly, or suffer a bit first?"
"You're insane!" Haley spat out the words, her eyes blazing with hate.
"I don't wanna do anything crazy either. But Haley, you're just too damn stubborn." Martin walked over, lifting her chin with the remote, "Come with me willingly, and I'll destroy the remote. Otherwise, don't blame me if your kids go down with the house."
Haley tried to keep her cool, but her fingers trembled. Even if she went with Martin, peace was out of the question.
And she couldn't just leave her kids behind.
"Fine, I'll go with you." Haley said through gritted teeth, "Destroy the remote, and I'll leave with you right now."
Martin toyed with the remote, chuckling, "I'm not that heartless. How about we take Angela with us? Those other three look too much like Ivan. I might strangle them. Am I generous or what?"
Haley clenched her teeth, "Just the two of us."
"Really?" Martin stared her down, "Why do I feel like you're trying to pull a fast one?"
"What trick could I possibly pull?" Haley shot back, her voice low, "You control my kids' lives. If I tried anything, it'd be suicide. Martin, what are you waiting for? Let's go!"
Martin grabbed her shoulder, his voice cold, "Bring Angela over."
Brenda was standing by the bedroom door. She could hear the voices but couldn't make out the words. She was ready to barge in at the first sign of trouble. Instead, she heard Martin's order to bring Angela.
Martin was Brenda's favorite child. She knew his ways better than anyone.
If Haley didn't bring Angela, Martin would go himself. Angela wouldn't be able to handle that kind of scare.
