Chapter 993
Odette sat quietly in the chair, lost in thought.
Patrick hadn't spilled the beans about what went down four years ago, but Odette knew Nicole was alive thanks to Camilla.
Now forcing Camilla to sacrifice herself for the Jenkins family was truly heartless.
She stayed silent, hoping Camilla would step up on her own.
Patrick kept stopping Nicole, making her face flush with frustration.
Samantha was wringing her hands, looking all anxious, but still kept her mouth shut.
Camilla let out a low chuckle.
Even Samantha, the foster mom who loved her the most, could throw her under the bus when push came to shove.
Once she paid back the Jenkins family for saving her, she could bounce without any guilt.
"Does the Jenkins family really need Camilla, a woman, to save us?" Brady, always the laid-back one, chimed in.
He snorted. "The Jenkins family has three dudes. No matter how bad things get, they shouldn't make an adopted daughter step up."
"What nonsense are you spouting!" Elara snapped, "Your dad got hauled to the police station because of Camilla, and you're still defending her?"
She twisted Brady's ear hard.
"Ouch!" Brady yelped, grabbing his ear.
"I think Brady's got a point!" Nicole jumped in, "It's not Camilla's job to step up! Mr. Winston just needs a secretary. I'll do it!"
Samantha was shocked and quickly pulled Nicole back. "Do you even know what being a secretary means? How dare you get involved in this?"
"Mom! I just want to be Mr. Winston's secretary. Why are you all making such a big deal out of it?" Nicole pouted.
"We'll handle this. You go back to your room and stay out of it."
Listening to Samantha gently coaxing Nicole, Camilla smirked a bit. There really was a difference between an adopted daughter and a biological one.
No matter how nice Samantha was to her, the line between close and distant was clear.
But she still couldn't figure out why Samantha had been so good to her these past three years. It felt like she was making up for some kind of guilt.
"Even if the Jenkins family is in trouble because Mr. Winston noticed me, I have to step up and ease their worries." Camilla smiled as she spoke, "Everyone, relax. I'll go see Mr. Winston tomorrow."
With that, she turned and went back to her room.
"That's more like it!" Elara said coldly, "I hope Mr. Winston keeps his word!"
"Mom, you're so heartless!" Brady said, rubbing his ear. "You're just sending a beautiful girl to be a secretary for some old guy. Her life will be ruined."
"Mr. Winston is not an old man. He's a hundred times more handsome than you!" Nicole snorted from the side.
"I'm one of the four most handsome guys in Brussville. Who could compare to me? Wait." Brady's eyes narrowed, "Nicole, you want to get close to him, don't you? I knew it, you wouldn't step up for the Jenkins family unless you had your own motives!"
Seeing Nicole and Brady about to start arguing again, Odette said coldly, "Enough, go back to your rooms!"
Camilla sat in her room, casually scrolling through the news on her phone.
The news about Ivan coming to Brussville for investment had already made the local headlines, but the media used an old photo of Ivan from a press conference in Watertown.
In the photo, Ivan was wearing a black suit and a gray tie, his eyes cold and sharp, exuding an intense aura.
She typed: [Ivan Winston], searching for the information about him online..
