Leonardo went against her father, so he had to go. But before that, she needed to know what it felt like to be with him.
“Dad, don’t worry. I’ll figure it out.”
They walked away, chatting.
Leonardo sat on the living room couch, his eyes cold and full of murderous intent.
If Quillan hadn’t controlled the Hinterlands' economy, he’d have thrown Quillan’s whole family in jail by now.
Leonardo’s position was shaky, so he couldn’t move against the top dogs of the Black Gang just yet.
All he had was military power.
But political and economic power go hand in hand; you can’t have one without the other.
If Leonardo wanted to pull off his reforms, he needed to grab economic power, too.
Haley’s words echoed in his mind.
She was right.
Leonardo had seen the news; folks from Country H were sharp with economic strategies. Maybe getting Haley’s help wasn’t a bad idea.
“Come here.”
The guard quickly approached. “Yes, sir.”
Leonardo was about to speak but realized he didn’t even know Haley’s full name.
Maybe she had introduced herself, but he couldn’t remember.
“Do you remember the woman from Country H, the one who came here two days ago?”
The guard nodded. “Yes, I remember. Louis even looked up her address.”
Leonardo’s eyes turned icy. “Why did he do that?”
“Well...” The guard felt awkward and coughed. “She’s quite a beauty. Everyone was curious, so Louis dug up some info.”
Leonardo’s gaze grew even colder. “Tell everyone to back off. She’s my business partner.”
The guard was startled and silently thanked his luck for not saying anything stupid earlier. Otherwise, Leonardo’s gaze would’ve turned into a steel blade and killed him.
He took a deep breath and said, “Got it. I’ll let them know right away.”
“After that, bring her here.”
After giving his orders, Leonardo headed to the study on the second floor.
The villa’s guards had already heard about Haley from Louis. They knew almost everything about her, except where she was from or her full name.
Haley waited anxiously until finally, a car pulled up at the villa’s entrance.
Keith, Todd, and Karl got out one by one.
Once the car left, Haley rushed out and hugged Todd and Keith, asking, “Keith, Todd, are you guys okay?”
