Chapter 182

It seemed he didn't really mind the idea of marrying this woman...

Haley, with her acute senses, caught Ivan's stare and quickly changed the subject.

Her eyes shifted to Owen and she spoke with authoritative firmness, “It might not hurt now, but once the anesthesia wears off, you’re going to be in tears from the pain. You’ll understand then just how terrifying a car accident can be! Owen, if you ever want to see me again, just give me a call. I'll come pick you up myself. If you dare sneak out like you did today, I won't come to see you ever again!”

Her face stern, she emphasized each word, her tone leaving no room for protest.

Tears pooled in Owen's eyes as he looked at Haley with a plaintive expression, “I won’t ever do it again, Haley... I just missed you too much, I couldn't help myself. I just wanted you to hug and kiss me...”

His big eyes were brimming with sorrow, making him look like a forlorn puppy.

Haley's heart softened, and she bent down to plant a gentle kiss on his forehead.

Watching this, Ivan furrowed his brow.

Somehow, he felt a sudden jealousy toward Owen...

“Haley, I want to kiss you, too!”

Owen wrapped his arms around Haley's neck, planting a kiss on her cheek.

Haley quickly took hold of his hands and scolded, “You, sir, need to stay put while you're hooked up to an IV...”

Owen obediently nodded, his gaze glued to Haley, reluctant to look away.

In the doorway of the hospital room, a figure slowly hid to the side.

Emily clutched at her chest, her eyes wide with disbelief and rage!

She had heard Haley mention Owen before and had assumed that Haley had unearthed some information about the Winston family, which is how she knew about Owen.

But! Watching the scene unfold, it was clear Haley had known Owen, not only in person but for a while!

And they seemed pretty close!

Owen was aware of the significant animosity between her and Haley, yet he was still so affectionate with Haley.

Where did that leave her, his mother?

And Ivan, this man couldn't possibly be ignorant of the grievances between the DeRoss family and Haley, yet he allowed this woman to linger by Owen's side.

Wasn’t he afraid Haley would do something to Owen?

Emily turned her face away again, peering through the crack in the door...

She saw Owen looking at Haley with pure adoration in his eyes, and for a fleeting moment, a gentle warmth softened Ivan's normally icy gaze...

The trio in the room shared a closeness that seemed to say they were family.
Actually, they were family.
Had it not been for her decision four years ago, at this very moment, Haley would surely be Mrs. Winston!
Emily felt a tormenting agitation, as if her heart was being consumed by frustration. She had the urge to burst into the hospital room and throttle Haley.
"Emily, why don't you go in?"
Alfred approached, holding a bottle of sports drink, his expression puzzled.
Emily jumped, her lips tightening as she replied, "I've got something else to deal with... I won't be going in."
Alfred nodded, with a puzzled look on his face.
Owen had never been fond of his mother, and wasn't she supposed to seize this opportunity to bond with her son while he was hospitalized? Why come all this way just to avoid him?
"Seeing me just upsets Owen; it’s not good for his recovery. Better I don't disturb him. Alfred, please don’t mention I was here."
With a wry smile, Emily turned and left.
Alfred sighed.
After leaving the hospital, Emily's painstakingly applied makeup twisted in an angry and resentful manner.
She pulled out her phone and dialed Keith's number...
