Chapter 687
After a series of setbacks, Haley and her group of six finally arrived at their destination.
This was a small country closest to Hinterlands, and it took less than half an hour to drive there.
Standing on the balcony of the villa's second floor, Haley could see people in black patrolling the border of the Hinterlands, indicating a high level of security.
Feeling weary, Haley washed her face and sat on the balcony, deep in thought.
While the children were still adjusting to the time difference and resting, Haley found herself unable to sleep and instead contemplated the next steps.
"The climate here is dry. Drink more water," Thomas said hoarsely. "Luckily, my dad called me a few days ago and asked me to take charge of the project here. Otherwise, I wouldn't have found an excuse to come."
Haley looked up. "Does the Ellenstein Group have a branch here?"
"In this area, there are frequent skirmishes, with ongoing road and house repairs. My family is in that business, and we make quite a bit of money here every year," Thomas said flatly as he sat down. "But now the Black Gang plans to go legit, and our business might be affected. My dad wants me to find a way to contact the Black Gang, aiming to become their partner and profit together."
Haley pursed her lips and asked, "Do you know anyone inside the Black Gang?"
Thomas scratched his nose awkwardly. "I only know two regular members who used to deliver weapons to the Black Gang. They're not really part of the Black Gang, but they have connections. I plan to start by reaching out to them. I'll go invite them to have a meal this afternoon."
"I'll go with you."
Haley stood up, suddenly feeling a bit dizzy.
She steadied herself and said, "I'll go upstairs and change my clothes."
Thomas sat on the balcony, watching her back and sighed.
He had a vague idea of what was going on, but he wasn't sure, as it was too unbelievable.
Soon, Haley returned in a different outfit.
She wore long sleeves and pants, looking very capable, with flat shoes on her feet, walking with purpose.
Thomas frowned slightly. "The Hinterlands just went through some internal conflicts, it's very dangerous. Are you sure you want to go with me?"
"If you're not afraid, why should I be?" Haley smiled. "Maybe I can even protect you."
Thomas chuckled wryly.
Although he was a man, he wasn't as skilled as Haley.
Thomas tugged his lips and said, "The bodyguard my dad arranged for me won't arrive until tomorrow. How about we go then?"
Haley said flatly, "I've already changed my clothes. Let's not delay any further. Let's go."
She needed to find out Ivan's whereabouts as soon as possible.
Haley was afraid something had happened to Ivan, and she was also afraid that her delay would lead to more serious consequences.
The top priority was to gather intelligence on Hinterlands' internal structure, power dynamics, and key individuals without wasting a single moment.
Thomas drove the car over, and they left a note before leaving the villa.
As soon as the car disappeared, four furry little heads peeked out from behind the curtains of the second-floor bedroom.
"Brother, can you guess what's going on?" Owen asked, blinking his big eyes in confusion.
Keith shook his head. "No idea."
