Chapter 419 Ivan Tried to Force a Smile
After Haley and the children left, the lively living room suddenly became quiet.
Owen, looking upset, sat on the sofa, playing with the blocks and puzzles Angela hadn't finished.
Keith lifted his head and walked over to Ivan, asking in a low voice, "Ivan, did you do something to upset Haley?"
Ivan furrowed his brow in frustration. "Why do you ask that?"
"Ever since Haley came out of the kitchen, something seemed off with her mood. I thought she was just tired, but during dinner, Haley didn't speak a word to you," Keith explained, "Did you say something out of line to her?"
Ivan massaged between his eyebrows. "You wouldn't understand adult matters, kid."
The regrettable deed had taken place five years ago.
That night, he had drunk himself into a stupor and hardly remembered what he had done.
If he had known it would lead to this day, he never would have let Louis get him so drunk...
Yet, Ivan tried to force a smile.
If not for that mix-up one night five years ago, he and Haley wouldn't have these four kids.
Without these four children, he and she might never have crossed paths in this lifetime.
What are the odds of finding someone who makes your heart skip a beat?
He heard it was less than one in ten million.
Now that he had met her, he would never let go.
"So, you made Haley angry!" Owen's delayed realization hit him, "No wonder Haley wasn't in a good mood tonight; no wonder she didn't kiss me. It's all your fault! It doesn't matter if you don't like Haley; I do, and when I grow up, I'm going to marry Haley!"
Ivan's expression turned dark. "Do you even know what you're talking about?"
"Hmph! I love Haley, and I want to be with her forever! If you can't, then I will!" Owen took a few steps back, stuck out his tongue, and then scampered up the stairs.
Ivan's expression suggested that he might burst into tears from anger.
He couldn't do it?
If that were true, then how did this little rascal come to be?
"Haley is the most beautiful woman in Cuenca, and so many people like her. You better step it up, Ivan."
Keith glanced at Ivan before heading up the stairs himself.
Ivan stayed seated on the couch, his brow creasing so deeply it could have trapped flies.
He pulled out his phone and found Louis's contact, typing out a message. [What's your most effective method when you're pursuing women?]
However, he immediately felt that was wrong and deleted it.
Haley wasn't like other women.
Louis's tactics would only work for her.
And if he used those moves on Haley, it somehow felt disrespectful...
But he honestly couldn't think of a better approach.
Mrs. Winston, usually so adept at strategy that not even an avalanche would alter his composure, was utterly discouraged at that moment.
He clicked open his Facebook feed and casually scrolled through, his gaze suddenly pausing.
There was a lengthy post—
[Today, I saw a patient with severe psychological disorders stemming from childhood trauma. It had been twelve years, and she had long forgotten the incident, but on the night of her wedding, the unpleasant memories came flooding back. She loved her husband deeply, yet whenever she remembered her past abuse, she couldn't bring herself to share a bed with him... I encounter patients like her almost every month...]
Ivan, who had been browsing absentmindedly, now snapped to full attention.
How could he not remember having a psychologist in his Facebook friends?
