Chapter 164
Was this really not disturbing her? It was clearly a way to force Mrs. Patterson to take a stand!
How could Madam DeRoss not guess what was on Emily's mind?
Confined to her home, she still caught wind of the DeRoss Group's affairs from the household staff.
With cloudy yet sharp eyes, she said slowly, "I've heard about you stepping down from the board and resigning as General Manager. This doesn't seem directly related to Haley."
Emily choked on her words.
If it weren't for Emily herself, no one would have scrutinized the misappropriation of funds. How could it have nothing to do with Haley?
Biting the inside of her cheek, Emily said with a hint of grievance, "Grandma, I know I've done wrong, and I accept my dismissal from the company... but what did my friend do wrong? She's been with the company for two years and brought in quite a few new clients. As soon as my sister took charge of the client department, she fired my friend. Isn't that just targeting me indirectly?"
Madam DeRoss replied coldly, "I believe Haley had her reasons. Now that she's the client department manager, she has the right to fire staff. We have no right to question her decisions."
Emily nearly broke her nails from the grip of her tension.
She took a deep breath, wanting to say more, but Madam DeRoss's gaze returned to her. "Emily, Keith called me yesterday."
That caught Emily off guard, and suddenly everything else didn't matter. Anxiously, she asked, "Why did Keith call you?"
"He was inquiring about my health, and he mentioned finding you a piano teacher," Madam DeRoss said calmly. "You studied the piano for many years and showed talent. But after you became the heir to the DeRoss Group, you neglected your practice. It might be time to pick it up again."
Emily bit her lip, silent.
She knew about Keith arranging piano lessons for her. On the surface, it was an act of concern, but she suspected it was a ploy to monopolize her time.
She did enjoy playing the piano in the past but had let it lapse for four years. Her skills were rusty, and she had no desire to start over...
"Emily, you're the mother of the two Owens of the Winston family, the pride of the heavens," said Madam DeRoss with poise, "and as their mother, you should carry yourself with grace and dignity. Keith arranged for you to have piano lessons, hoping that one day he can introduce you to everyone under a new light." She continued plainly, "Keith has your best interests at heart, and he hopes you'll understand that."
A spark lit up in Emily's eyes. "Grandmother, does Keith really mean that?"
"What else would be the point of going through the trouble of finding you a master pianist from France?" Madam DeRoss explained, "I hear your teacher is none other than Miss Alice, who at thirty-two has become a top global concert pianist. Many dream of studying under her and never find the opportunity. Now, Keith has handed it to you on a silver platter; you'd best not let him down."
Emily was taken aback.
Master Alice?
Wasn't she the global prodigy who rose to fame over a decade ago?
When Emily had first taken to the piano, it was Alice who had shot to stardom, the idol she had once revered.
And Keith had secured Alice to teach her!
Emily's heart began to race.
Becoming a student of Alice's could skyrocket her status...
