Chapter 356
Ivan frowned, "Mom when I met her, I had no idea she was related to the kids."
"Now that you know, isn't it time to give up?" Mrs. Winston said icily. "Emily DeRoss bore your children, yet you want to marry Haley DeRoss. If word gets out, do you have any idea how people will ridicule the Winstons?"
" I like Haley. I don't care who she is," Ivan said calmly. "And I certainly won't break up with her just because she's Emily's sister."
As Haley came downstairs with the two children, she was stunned to overhear such a declaration.
Her eyes were a whirlwind of surprise, astonishment, and shock.
Though they were currently boyfriend and girlfriend, in reality, their relationship wasn't based on mutual affection.
But now, this man, in front of Mrs. Winston, was declaring his love for her and insisting he would never part with her.
Her once callous heart felt as if it were quietly being changed.
Mrs. Winston heard the footsteps from the stairs and fell silent.
She turned her head, her gaze first landing on Haley's face before drifting to the two children flanking her.
Just earlier in the hall, she had heard plenty of talk about Cuenca's most beautiful woman and her two kids, rumored to belong to the prominent Patel family in the city, though this speculation seemed unfounded.
Mrs. Winston's usually frosty face softened a few degrees when she saw Angela's delicate, chubby cheeks.
Haley, leading the two children downstairs, smiled and said, "Mrs. Winston, it's getting late. I should take the kids home now."
"Are these your boy and girl?" Mrs. Winston asked softly. "How old are they now?"
After she asked, Mrs. Winston reached out to touch Angela's hair.
The little girl widened her eyes in fright and took a step back, hiding behind Haley.
"Mom, Angela is shy," Ivan said with a frown. "I'll take them home now."
He bent down to pick up the little girl, and with his other hand, he casually wrapped his arm around Haley's waist, and the four of them headed outside.
Mrs. Winston leaned against the couch, her eyebrows knitting together slightly.
She looked up at Alfred, who was cleaning up the mess nearby. "Come over here," she called out.
Alfred set down his work and approached her respectfully. "What do you need?" he asked.
"Do the DeRoss kids come over to the Winston estate often?" Mrs. Winston asked slowly. "And how does Ivan feel about them?"
"Miss DeRoss has been coming over for dinner quite a lot lately," Alfred explained. "Todd and Angela go back only after they've had their evening meal here. Owen, in particular, is quite fond of Angela. He just wishes she was his sister." Alfred chuckled, his face brightening with the smile. "Lucky for us, Angela can't talk. Otherwise, who knows how many people would fall for her charm."
Mrs. Winston's lips tightened into a firm line as she remained silent.
She had never seen her son embrace Owen, but just now, Ivan had been holding someone else's child.
She had mixed feelings about that.
At that moment, her phone began to vibrate.
Alfred glanced instinctively at it and saw a name flashing on the screen that had been absent for a long time: Martin.
"Madam, I'll leave you to your business," he said, knowing it was time to step away.
Mrs. Winston picked up her phone and got up, her steps shaky as she made her way to the study.
