Chapter 231
Night fell, and Emily lay on the expansive hotel bed, her thoughts swirling in confusion.
Everything that had happened today was unexpected but had unfolded so naturally.
If Ivan found out, she would have no chance of ever being Mrs. Winston ever again.
A silky arm snaked over to Emily's side. "What are you thinking about?"
Emily pursed her lips. "You can't breathe a word of today's incident to anyone. This stays between us."
Jordan's gaze flickered. "Okay, I'll do as you say."
Relief washed over Emily. Lucky for her, Jordan was savvy enough to save her the effort of persuasion.
The muted buzz of a vibrating phone disrupted the silence.
Jordan hastily grabbed his phone, his expression darkening as he glanced at the caller ID. "I need to take this call, excuse me," he said, dashing to the bathroom, where he locked himself in.
Emily's brows knit together with suspicion. She wondered who was calling that required such secrecy.
As she pondered, another phone began to vibrate. Pulling her cell from beneath the pillow, she saw an unknown number. Hesitant but idle, she answered the call.
"I didn't expect Ms. Emily Deross's number to still work after five years. You must be a person of deep sentiment."
A jolt of surprise rushed through Emily. 'That voice...why does it sound so familiar?' She massaged her forehead, racking her brain for the identity of the voice.
After a long silence on her end, the caller prompted, "Remember the King's Hotel five years ago? Surely you haven't forgotten?"
"Jeremy Chase?"
A sense of shock etched across Emily's face.
Jeremy Chase was in Cuenca on business five years ago, coincidentally collaborating with the DeRoss Group. That evening, Emily's mother and Jeremy Chase attended a banquet, and Haley had gone to deliver something to Emily's mother, crossing paths with Jeremy.
Her mother hinted that Jeremy had taken a fancy to Haley.
So, she and her mother crafted a perfect scheme.
On the night of Haley's eighteenth birthday, they delivered her straight into Jeremy's arms. Yet, unbeknownst to her to this day, the children Haley later bore turned out to be Ivan's.
"When I asked you about the girl's whereabouts back then, you claimed she was dead," Jeremy said coldly, "But tonight, I saw her, as beautiful as ever, just like five years ago. Deliver that girl to my bed once more, and I'll grant you any request in return."
Emily's expression turned dark. Five years ago, Haley was an easy target. There was nothing to worry about. But now, that wretched Haley was far from easy prey. To get Haley into Jeremy's bed was a daunting task.
She bit her lip and spoke hesitantly, "Mr. Chase, there's something I don't know if I should share with you."
After a brief pause, she continued, "The girl you slept with five years ago was my younger sister, Haley. She vanished four years ago, and we all thought she was dead. But she recently came back to life with two kids in tow... Suddenly, it struck me that those kids bear a striking resemblance to you, Mr. Jeremy. They could be your children."
"Are you sure?" he asked urgently.
"Of course, I am. Why would I lie to you?" Emily's lips curved into a sly smile. "Please be patient for a few days, Mr. Jeremy. I'll dig up the kids' details and send them to you. Then, you can go see them for yourself."
"I'm heading back to Xyleria in three days. I would appreciate getting the information before then."
Emily nodded with a smile. She didn't really know who the biological father of those two brats was, but that didn't stop her from pinning it on Jeremy.
The Chases were a powerful and influential family in Xyleria with plenty of wealth. They would never let their bloodline fall into neglect.
If Jeremy was hell-bent on fighting Haley for the children, that would give her a real headache.
In that case, Haley's messy entanglement with Ivan would be cut clean.
