Chapter 695
The sun peeked over the horizon, kicking off a new day. After freshening up, Haley darkened her skin a bit and put on some light makeup before heading downstairs.
Thomas was downstairs playing with Angela and Owen while Keith and Todd were reading. The whole scene was warm and cozy.
"Morning, Mommy," the kids chimed in unison, looking up at her.
Haley smiled softly. "You all behave at home today. I'll be back at noon to make lunch."
"Mom, I'll take good care of them," Keith said, all serious.
"I'll be good," Owen promised. "I'll play with Angela too, so don't worry, Mom."
Angela blinked. "Mommy, stay safe."
Haley kissed each of their cheeks. "Be good and wait for me. I'll be back safe and sound."
At the front door, her gentle smile vanished.
Thomas sighed. "Haley, where are you planning to look for him today? I'll go with you."
Haley's lips tightened. "I want to talk to Leonardo about a partnership."
She had done a lot of research on Leonardo last night. Maybe he had a deep desire for peace. Even though he lived in a world of crime, he hadn't turned into a complete monster.
Leonardo was known for implementing new policies, improving public safety, cleaning up illegal businesses, and finding new ways to make money. A guy like Leonardo couldn't be all bad.
"Are you nuts?" Thomas stared at her in disbelief. "Do you know who Leonardo is? He took out August by himself and killed the previous leader to take over. On his first day, he drove other gangs out of Hinterlands. He's terrifying. How can you provoke him?"
"That's exactly why I want to work with him," Haley said firmly. "He can have anything he wants. As long as I find Ivan, I don't care about the cost."
Thomas was speechless.
After a long pause, he said, "My dad also wants to work with Leonardo, so he gathered some info on him. Leonardo is super cautious. Even his closest guards don't fully trust him. Getting close to him won't be easy. We need a solid plan."
Haley picked up her handbag and said calmly, "This is a special product from Country H. People from Country H usually like it, and Leonardo probably won't refuse it. He saved me yesterday and today; I'm bringing a gift to thank him. He shouldn't turn me away."
Thomas shook his head. He wasn't sure if Leonardo would refuse Haley. But Haley was too beautiful and had a rare heritage in this area, which might attract unwanted attention.
"How about I go first?" Thomas suggested. "I'll scout the situation. If Leonardo is willing to talk, you can go tomorrow."
"Thomas, I can't wait." Haley looked at him, her voice tinged with sadness. "Every extra day is another day of danger for Ivan. I really can't wait."
Her expression was calm, her eyes steady, but her voice betrayed her worry and anxiety.
This was the first time Thomas had seen Haley so flustered and lost. Haley was always confident and methodical, but now she clearly didn't know what to do. Even knowing the danger ahead, she was still willing to take that step. As long as she could find Ivan, she might even be willing to sacrifice her own life.
