Chapter 199
Dinner, a simple yet nutritious assortment of dishes, was quickly prepared.
Haley and the children gathered around the dining table.
"Mom, since tomorrow's Saturday, maybe we could visit Owen in the hospital?" Todd asked, his voice carrying a hint of something beyond mere concern.
Angela looked up, her eyes reflecting a glimmer of hope.
Haley smiled, sensing the change in Todd, "Todd, have you started to see Owen in a different light?"
Todd hesitated, then admitted, “He's been good to Angela. I guess he's okay."
Haley laughed at how honest kids can be, their opinions so innocent and adaptable.
She hoped Todd would always retain a piece of that simplicity.
Yet, as Todd's gaze dropped, a subtle edge crept into his eyes.
The domain name sent from “K”, it took just one look for Todd to link it to the Winston Group.
This implied that the cyberattack on his mother's company might have ties to the Winstons.
He had to meet Owen, not just to visit, but to probe for insights on Ivan's character...
The Saturday morning was bright and cheerful, a stark contrast to the mood inside the hospital room.
Owen lay in bed, his expression one of utter frustration, "I just want to go outside, Alfred. Can't you just let me go out for a little while?"
Alfred's face mirrored Owen's disappointment, “You have to heal up first. The doctor said you need to rest, but soon you'll be free to do whatever you want..."
"You're just saying that!" With a hint of resentment, Owen shot back, "Once I get out of here, I'll probably get grounded anyway." I might as well be here indefinitely."
In a burst of defiance, Owen threw back his covers and made to jump out of bed.
Alfred was quick to intervene, his voice laced with urgency, "Owen, please don't make this harder..."
Owen, however, was resolute, reaching for Alfred's arm in protest, "Let me be, I want to go outside!"
Ever since the accident, Alfred had become more assertive. He gently but firmly held Owen, coaxing, "Just one more day of rest, Owen. I promise we'll go out tomorrow, even if it's just for a short while..."
Their standoff was interrupted by the arrival of Emily and Keith.
Keith's stern demeanor upon entering reflected his father's, “Owen, you're already hurt. Don't make it worse. You wanna get hurt again?"
Owen's resistance wilted under his brother's stern gaze, and he slumped back onto the bed, muttering, "You're always so harsh..."
"Keith, let's give him a break," Emily interjected, trying to lighten the mood. She presented a toy to Owen, "Look what I brought for you. Remember how much you used to love Transformers?"
She handed him the toy, still in its pristine form.
Owen's reaction was abrupt and harsh, "I don't want this anymore!" and with a swift motion, he sent it tumbling to the ground where it shattered.
Emily's smile vanished as she struggled to hold back tears, "But you always loved Transformers... Why won't you play with it when I got it just for you?"
"I'm over Transformers, I don't want it!" Owen shouted, his words harsh, "I don't want to see you! Get out! Leave me alone!"
Tears spilled down Emily's cheeks as she tried to compose herself in the face of her son's outburst.
