Chapter 704
"I'll be fine," Haley said, flashing Thomas a reassuring smile.
The door to the reception room clicked shut.
Thomas looked frustrated and fished a cigarette out of his pocket.
Isabel sauntered over, sneering. "Comfortable with your wife alone in a room with another man?"
"None of your business," Thomas snapped, shooting her a cold glance. "Worry about your own fiancé."
For some reason, Thomas always felt Leonardo's gaze on Haley was a bit off. Leonardo was the top dog around here. If he had a thing for Haley, Thomas was at a loss for what to do. With these thoughts swirling, Thomas's hand shook as he tried to light his cigarette, but he failed repeatedly before making it.
Isabel sneered again. "Only a coward would use his wife to get ahead. You make me sick."
Thomas ignored her, taking a drag and straining to hear anything from the reception room. The soundproofing was too good; he heard nothing.
Inside, the reception room was spacious. Leonardo sat by the balcony, and Haley followed him over, about ten meters from the door. Just as Haley was about to speak, Leonardo looked up. His deep, cold eyes locked onto Haley. "Do you speak H language?"
A strange emotion welled up in Haley under his gaze. Feeling a bit lost, she looked away and replied in H language, "I'm from Country H. Of course, I speak it."
"Then listen to how I speak it," Leonardo spoke slowly and clearly. Haley was stunned again. Two days ago, Leonardo's voice had seemed incredibly familiar. Now, hearing it in their native language, that familiarity intensified.
"Are you also from Country H?" she asked, astonished.
"Maybe," Leonardo said indifferently. "What do you want to talk about? Go ahead."
The previous topic was abruptly cut off. Haley had more questions but knew now wasn't the time. Leonardo seemed approachable, but she couldn't forget he had killed the previous two leaders.
Haley quickly pulled herself together. "Mr. Windsor, I came a long way to find someone in Hinterlands. You're the top dog here. Finding someone should be a breeze for you. In return, I can help you reorganize the Black Gang's operations."
Leonardo fiddled with his lighter and said coolly, "Lots of people want to help me with the Black Gang. Why should I pick you?"
"Mr. Windsor, you've only been in charge for a month. Your foundation's shaky. You probably don't have many trusted people, making it tough to get things done." Haley grinned. "And you plan to shut down all previous operations, which will ruffle a lot of feathers. Your new policies will be hard to enforce. You need to squash internal dissent and manage external forces. Can you handle all that on your own?"
"I'm a businesswoman and know the business inside out. I can help you manage the Black Gang's new operations without taking a cut." Haley sat across from Leonardo, resolute. "You deal with the external forces, and I'll clean up the Black Gang's internal mess. In less than three months, the Black Gang will be completely under your control."
"And all you need to do is help me find someone. It's all gain, no loss for you."
"Mr. Windsor, shall we team up?"
