Chapter 386
After all, her previous request was to cover up her real intentions, but now her motives had been exposed.
She didn't know what kind of storm awaited once Ivan was discharged from the hospital.
...
The autumn sun cast a clear and dry light through the windowsill, illuminating windowsill Keith's eyelids. They twitched violently before opening, revealing the bright beam of Owen's face greeting him.
The first thing he saw was Owen's beaming face.
"Keith, you finally woke up!" Owen laughed joyfully.
He had snuck into Keith's room the previous night, then stayed, sleeping by Keith's side.
Keith was typically a light sleeper, usually waking up the moment Owen approached. However, last night had been an exception. Keith had slept deeply throughout, undisturbed by Owen's presence.
When Keith had returned home the previous night, blood had stained the back of his head. Owen had been terrified, fearing that if Keith fell asleep, he might not wake up again. That fear had kept Owen vigilant, staying by Keith's side to watch over him.
"Keith, does your head still hurt? Do you want me to change your dressings?" Owen asked, holding a medical kit with concern.
Keith felt a warm sensation flow through his chest as he propped himself up to sit. "I'm okay. The headache is gone," he declared.
Owen bit his lip, struggling for several minutes before finally speaking. "Keith, what the heck happened last night? I asked Alfred, but he wouldn't tell me... Then, I called Felix, and he only mentioned that Emily, that witch, kidnapped you... Keith, why would Emily kidnap you? Why would she target you? It's me she hates. Any grudge should be directed at me..."
Keith's tongue tasted bitter as he apologized, "Owen, I'm sorry."
"Keith, why are you suddenly apologizing to me?" Owen pressed for an answer.
"When you were rude to Emily in the past, I thought it was because you were impolite and uncultured. Now, I realize I was wrong, terribly wrong," Keith said with a rueful smile. "You were able to face your own heart. Why did I insist on such restraint? Why did I maintain so much respect for Emily out of filial duty? Even to the point where I opposed..."
'...my birth mother.'
He had made so many mistakes, yet Haley was willing to risk her life to save him.
"Keith, you're confusing me." Owen scratched his chin. "Haven't you always taught me to respect Emily? You say it's because she was our mother, because she gave us life, we owed her a lifetime of respect... Why are you saying all this now? What's really going on?"
"She is not our mother," Keith uttered softly, his eyes closed briefly.
He pushed down the rising emotions in his chest and slowly continued, "I don't know all the details, but Emily is definitely not our mother. Our birth mother is Haley."
"What?!" Owen's eyes widened in disbelief. "Keith, are you saying Haley is our biological mother?"
Keith nodded.
He used to think his brother was adorably naive, referring to their birth mother as an evil witch and calling their mother's enemy, Haley, so familiarly. Now, he realized that perhaps he was the bigger fool.
Owen's intuition was so accurate that he recognized Haley out of millions, and, as it turned out, Haley was their birth mother. Owen was the smartest of the two.
"Oh my god, Haley is my mother!" Owen rambled on as he paced back and forth. "If Haley is my birth mother, then Angela is my mother... Oh my god, is all this really happening..."
Watching his brother's reaction, Keith couldn't help but laugh and shake his head.
He threw the blanket aside, got up, and sat down at the desk, opening his laptop.
