Chapter 832
Haley and Ivan had pretty much spent all their alone time in bed after getting back from their trip, and she had been drained.
So, she quickly looked away, not wanting to tempt Ivan.
The car rolled into the Winston family villa's yard. As soon as she stepped out, Ivan yanked her into his arms and planted a hard kiss on her for a solid minute.
It wasn't until she heard voices from inside that Haley wriggled out of Ivan's grip, "Hey, watch it, we've got company."
Ivan glanced inside, "Ruby's not a stranger."
Haley perked up, knowing Ruby was a tough nut to crack.
Last time Ruby visited Brenda, she bad-mouthed Haley a lot.
Haley didn't care much about Brenda's attitude, but since they were family, it was better to get along. If Ruby kept causing trouble, living together would be a nightmare.
Haley straightened her clothes and walked in. She heard Ruby's voice before she even reached the door.
"Brenda, did you catch tonight's news? It's all about Haley. She lost her cool and slapped that woman, her own relative, in front of everyone!" Ruby complained, "She's the mistress of the Winston family, yet she's running for the Lumi family inheritance. What a joke! People might think you've been treating her badly."
"Ruby, what brings you here?" Haley walked in, forcing a smile, "I think I heard my name. What were you talking about?"
Ruby's face went stiff.
She'd only bad-mouthed Haley twice. The first time, some kids overheard, and now, Haley and Ivan heard it together. Talk about bad luck.
Brenda tried to smooth things over. "Ruby was talking about the Lumi family banquet tonight. Some of it was on the news."
Ruby couldn't help but ask, "Haley, the news said you're running for the Lumi family heir position. Is that true?"
Haley nodded, "Is there a problem with that?"
Haley's smiling face seemed harmless, making Ruby let her guard down. Ruby said earnestly, "Haley, you're the mistress of the Winston family. Whatever you want, the Winston family will give you. I think you don't need to go back to the Lumi family and run for the heir position. Everyone in Watertown knows you're an illegitimate child. This rumor isn't good for the Winston family."
"How am I bad for the Winston family?" Haley's smile turned cold. "Ruby, if you care so much about the Winston family's reputation, you shouldn't have brought your useless nieces and nephews into the company for important positions. Your husband's company has had years of losses, causing way more damage to the Winston Group than I ever could. Why don't you think about that?"
"You!"
Ruby's eyes widened in disbelief. She never expected Haley to turn hostile so suddenly.
Nor did she expect Haley, a junior, to speak to her like that.
"Ruby, if you have nothing better to do, perhaps you could impart some wisdom to the less accomplished members of your family. It's best not to meddle in other people's business. Am I right?" Haley smiled slightly, her eyes cold.
After speaking, she hooked her arm around Ivan's and giggled, "Ivan, let's go upstairs and rest."
Haley and Ivan walked upstairs side by side, and Ivan didn't say a word the entire time.
Ruby was furious, "Brenda, look at the woman Ivan married. How can she talk to me, an elder, like that? Ivan must be deceived by her. He's enabling her rudeness towards me!"
