Chapter 209

"It was you! You killed my son!" The middle-aged woman lunged at Haley, grabbing her by the collar. Her other hand, raised high, swung fiercely at Haley's cheek...

Haley's brow knitted together.

With a calm and swift move, she caught the woman's wrist and twisted it behind her back, restraining both of the woman's hands.

"Who are you?" Haley's voice was icy, a chill apparent in her eyes.

The woman, now with her wrists pinned behind her, broke down sobbing, "It's all your fault, you killed my son! You manipulated my son into hitting someone with his car, and then you had him murdered to silence him! You wretched woman!"

Her wails echoed as onlookers chattered amongst themselves.

"I heard about this hit-and-run from a relative. The driver who hit a kid fled the scene, and then turned up dead the next day."

"He fled after hitting someone? Serves him right for dying!"

"My uncle's a cop, and he thinks the driver was coerced into it, that the whole accident was premeditated."

"No way, you think Ms. DeRoss had something to do with it?"

"She doesn't seem the type. How could she be behind a car accident?"

Haley had been in the dark, but overhearing the crowd provided her the information she needed. She hadn't followed up on the accident involving Owen. She had just assumed it was a straightforward hit-and-run, not realizing there was a conspiracy at play...

Her face turned frosty as she spoke clearly and deliberately, "Why are you so sure that I was behind your son's actions?"

"Who else would it be but you?" the woman cried out between sobs, "The day before the accident, you went to see my son. I saw you! I've only seen you once, but with your beauty, I could never forget! You're the reason my son is dead! There's no one else. My son is dead, and I will not let you get away with it! I will avenge my son!"
The middle-aged woman suddenly whipped out a dagger and spun around, driving the blade towards Haley.

But Haley dismissed such amateur theatrics with a cool sidestep and a swift kick that knocked the dagger out of the woman's grasp onto the floor.

George, from the neighboring office, couldn't hide his admiration. "Never knew Ms. DeRoss had martial arts skills."

His secretary, in a hushed tone, suggested, "I think there's more to Ms. DeRoss than meets the eye, especially if she's entangled with these types of disputes. Better to keep our distance."

"I don't think she's involved," George replied.

"Involved or not, such a mess found its way to her. We've got a major client coming in; let's head back and get the documents ready," said the secretary, determined.

Seeing that the secretary had a point, George headed back inside his office, beckoning his coworkers from the spectacle back to work.

Haley crouched down, restrained the middle-aged woman with a swift move, grasped her collar tightly, and dragged her outside.

"Where are you taking me?" the woman panicked. "Let me go! Are you trying to silence me? Help! I need help!"

"We can sort this out at the police station," Haley replied calmly.

Shortly after getting her into the backseat and locking the doors, the car sped towards the police station, just a five-minute drive away. Once stopped, the woman frantically tried to escape...

Haley managed to restrain her into the station.

After an intense questioning by the police and the woman's continual complaints, Haley finally pieced together the sequence of events.
