Chapter 744
The night was dark, stars twinkling, and the moonlight like a gentle stream.
A light knock on the window snapped Haley to attention.
She put on a coat and opened the curtain slightly to look outside.
"It's me." Leonardo's hoarse voice came through.
Haley then saw him on the balcony, cloaked in black, his scar visible in the moonlight without his golden mask.
His features, his outline, and he tight curve of his lips, were exactly as she remembered.
She unlocked the door.
Leonardo stepped in, bringing the night's chill with him.
His deep eyes shone even brighter in the dark, like a mesmerizing vortex.
Haley's heart raced, but she tried to stay calm. "Why are you here?"
"To see you," Leonardo said, his voice magnetic. "Do you miss me?"
He placed a hand on her shoulder, and it felt like a burning ember. Haley's heart jolted.
She quickly stepped back, almost tripping over a trash can, but Leonardo caught her waist.
"Why are you dodging?" he whispered near her ear. "Who risked everything to be my antidote before?"
Haley blushed.
She tried to pull away, but he held her tighter.
"Before, you were hurt, and it was an emergency. But now..." Haley bit her lip. "You've lost your memory. You're Leonardo now. When you become Ivan again, we can..."
She couldn't finish.
"Tell me about the past," Leonardo said softly. "I want to hear you talk to me."
Since waking up over a month ago, his heart had been restless. His mind was often blank; he had been running on sheer willpower.
Until Haley appeared, and until those two kids called him "Daddy," he finally felt a sense of belonging.
He ignored the chaotic situation and rushed over in the middle of the night.
He feared that if danger struck again, he might never see Haley and the kids.
Sensing his emotions, Haley stopped struggling and let him hold her. "We have four kids together. You only saw two today. Want to see the other two?"
"No rush," Leonardo said, holding her. "I want to hear you talk first."
His voice, like a cello's notes, made her ears burn.
She was glad the lights were off, or she'd be really embarrassed.
She had so much to say but suddenly couldn't find the words.
She could hear Leonardo's breathing and heartbeat. It was so real and comforting.
Then, she found his breathing got closer.
Haley's eyes widened.
Leonardo's face got closer, and then his lips touched hers.
Leonardo kissed her!
Her heartbeat got clear and intense.
A strong emotion surged within her.
Haley felt his burning hand on her shoulder and his breath mingling with hers. The familiar taste and presence brought tears to her eyes.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and responded passionately.
Suddenly, a loud noise came from outside, like a chair falling.
Haley quickly pulled away. "Don't do anything rash. Let me check."
She buttoned up her clothes and rushed out.
Leonardo looked down at himself and smiled wryly.
"Who's downstairs?" Haley called from the top of the stairs, turning on the hallway light.
She saw Pitt on the ground, struggling to stand by holding the wall.
"Pitt, what's going on?" she asked, exasperated.
"I couldn't find the light switch. I fumbled around and fell," Pitt said, frustrated.
"Why are you still awake?" Haley asked.
"Aren't you up too?" Pitt limped to the fridge, grabbed a bottle of water, and drank half. "The air here is so dry. I'll turn into a dried-up corpse if I stay longer."
Haley's eyes flashed. "Come to my room for a moment."
Pitt, holding the water bottle, looked stunned, and then hesitant. "Haley, this isn't right. I'm in my twenties and never had a girlfriend. My first time should be special, not some affair."
Haley's face darkened.
"Shut up!" she snapped. "Just come here. No more nonsense."
Pitt shrank back. Despite Haley being married with four kids, she was still beautiful.
'Having a one-night stand with her wouldn't be too bad, right?' he thought to himself.
Pitt took another sip of water, braced himself, and followed her. At the door, he said, "Haley, if you insist, I won't refuse. But we can't tell Thomas or the kids."
He stopped short when he saw a tall figure in the room.
He had to look up to see Leonardo's eyes.
"Fuck, Haley, there's another man in your room. You can't expect me to... No way, I'm still young and pure. I can't do this with another man."
"Pitt! If you dare to say one more unreasonable word, I'll seal your mouth shut!"
Haley was speechless.
She thought, 'Pitt is young, but why does he always imagine such dirty things?'
If she didn't know Pitt had an open mind, she might think he was insulting her.
Leonardo's face was also dark with anger.
He thought, 'Why is Haley bringing another man into the room in the middle of the night? I haven't even left yet. No, even if I have, she shouldn't bring another man into the bedroom at night.'
"Pitt, this is my husband. Katherine hypnotized him and sealed his memories," Haley explained. "Can you check his condition now?"
