Chapter 902
The cold wind slapped Haley's face, but she didn't even flinch.
Balling up her fists, she spat out, "Martin, what the hell do you want?"
"Come with me," Martin said, stroking her chin. "If you do, I'll let Ivan off the hook."
Haley glared at him. "And if I say no?"
"No?" Martin sneered. "Then I'll push Ivan to the edge again."
He leaned in and sniffed her neck. "Ugh, you reek of Ivan."
Haley's eyes dropped, and the dagger hidden in her sleeve slid into her hand. In one swift move, she lunged at Martin's neck.
But Martin was ready and dodged back.
"Haley, you're asking for it!" Martin's face turned icy, colder than the winter wind.
"Fine, let's end this." Haley raised the dagger and charged again.
She was done with these past few weeks. Better to risk it all than live in constant fear. If Martin were out of the picture, she'd be free. And she trusted Ivan to handle the rest of the controllers.
Martin knew he couldn't take her head-on, so he kept dodging. But Haley was relentless; her knife grazed his face, leaving a thin, bleeding cut.
Martin touched his face, his fingers coming away red.
His eyes darkened, filled with a bloodthirsty rage.
"Haley, you wanna play? Let's play for real." He smirked and pulled out a metal earring.
"Let's kick things off with a little game." Martin locked eyes with Haley as she charged, and he gave a slow, deliberate order.
"Kick that troublemaker Todd out of the Winston Family."
As soon as Martin said it, the command echoed in Haley's mind.
Her dagger dropped, and she glared at Martin, seething. "You're a bastard! The kid's innocent!"
"He messed with my program, so he's not innocent," Martin sneered. "If you don't do it in twenty-four hours, things will get worse for you. Haley, we've got all the time in the world."
With that, he turned and left.
His car vanished into the night, but Martin's voice grew louder in Haley's mind. The back of her head throbbed more and more.
As long as she didn't follow the order, Martin's command wouldn't go away.
The more she resisted, the worse the pain got.
Haley's dagger clattered to the ground. She clutched her head and stumbled toward the villa.
Before she reached the door, Ivan's tall, lean figure rushed to her. "Haley, where were you? What happened?"
Ivan scooped her up and carried her inside.
The warmth of the house wrapped around her, but Haley felt no relief. Her head still pounded, and her thoughts were a jumbled mess.
"Don't talk to me. I need to be alone." Haley hugged her knees and buried her face in them, like a turtle hiding from the world.
Ivan bent down and picked her up. "Let's get you to bed so you can rest."
