Chapter 848

"Nope," Ivan said, deadpan. "Didn't you wanna grab some water? Go on, hurry up."

"Alright." Owen took a step, then spun back around. "Hey, my buddy said he saw his mom and dad fighting on the bed one night. His mom was crying 'cause his dad hit her. He got super scared and told his kindergarten teacher. Dad, you better not mess with Mom, or I'm calling the cops."

Ivan went silent. Haley was quiet too.

She forced a smile. "Owen, why would your dad and I fight? Don't overthink it. Come on, I'll take you downstairs for some water. And I'll leave another one by your bed so you won't have to come down in the middle of the night."

Haley coaxed Owen into drinking water and then sent him back to his room to rest. Only then did she head back to the bedroom.

She locked the door and snorted, "You forgot to lock the door again. Do it one more time, and I'm done talking to you."

Ivan pulled Haley into his arms and pinned her beneath him. "There won't be a next time, I swear."

Feeling his body heat, Haley's face turned red for no reason. "Owen just barged in, and you're still..."

Ivan didn't say anything, just showed his love with actions.

Haley's mind got all fuzzy from his kisses, her limbs went limp, and she let Ivan caress her.

Lost in the moment, a voice suddenly echoed in her mind.

"Push him away!"

"Push him away!"

The voice was urgent and severe, getting louder and louder in Haley's head. Haley screamed and clutched her head.

"Haley, what's wrong?" Ivan immediately stopped and kissed her cheek.

"No, it hurts so much!"

It felt like her right cheek and the back of her head were being torn apart.

"Haley, where does it hurt? Here?" Ivan's rough fingers gently touched the scar on Haley's right cheek.

"Don't touch me, get out!" Haley's eyes suddenly opened, cold and emotionless.

Ivan's face darkened instantly. It happened again. He didn't know what to do, but he wouldn't let the previous situation happen again.

Ivan sat on the edge of the bed, watching Haley's every move intently.

Haley, out of control, got out of bed and walked step by step towards the balcony. She tried to force the lock open but couldn't.

Ivan pursed his lips. He had the lock changed to a fingerprint lock during the day, with only his fingerprint registered for now. He couldn't risk a repeat of the previous incident.

Unable to get out to the balcony, Haley didn't make any other moves. She just stood in front of the window, her face devoid of emotion, staring out into the dark night.
