Chapter 857
Dinner was ready in no time.
Haley took a deep breath, grabbed Ivan's hand, and headed to the dining room.
Owen pulled a face, stuck out his tongue, and teased, "Mom and Dad are so lovey-dovey. Dad hogs Mom all the time."
Ivan shot him a glare, "You want a lesson, kid?"
Owen quickly ducked behind Keith, "Mom doesn't hang out with us after work anymore. It's all Dad's fault!"
Angela nodded like crazy, "Dad, I wanna sleep with Mom tonight."
"I wanna sleep with Mom too!" Owen chimed in, all excited. "I want her to give me a bath and tell me a story."
"Grow up," Todd snickered. "You think you're a baby, needing Mom to bathe you?"
"I'm still a kid at four!" Owen shot back confidently. He ran to Haley and begged, "Mom, you spend all your time with Dad. Can you hang out with me, please?"
Haley's cheeks turned a bit pink.
Lately, her life with Ivan had been pretty sweet. They were either working together or getting cozy in the bedroom.
She thought she was being discreet, but clearly, the kids had noticed.
Before Haley could say anything, Ivan said coolly, "Keith and Todd can already run a company, Angela can perform on stage solo. Can your paintings be exhibited?"
Owen went quiet. It was one thing to be outdone by Keith and Todd, but now he felt like he couldn't even keep up with Angela.
"Practice painting more," Ivan continued, "If you hit a snag, call your grandpa."
Owen stayed silent.
Was he just being handed off to his grandpa?
Haley shot Ivan a look. She patted Owen's head and said, "You're almost five, a big boy who can bathe himself now. But I can tell you a bedtime story tonight."
Owen finally grinned, "Thanks, Mom."
Keith pulled out a chair and said sweetly, "Mom, sit down and eat."
Todd placed a bowl of soup in front of Haley, "Mom, this is chicken soup, good for your skin. Try it before eating."
Not to be outdone, Owen picked up a piece of roast meat, "Roast meat, Mom's favorite. See if it's good."
Angela added some veggies, "More veggies for vitamins."
Haley felt wrapped in happiness and said gently, "Alright, you should all serve yourselves too."
The six of them had a harmonious meal.
As they were finishing up, Owen pushed back his chair and stood up, "Alfred also made dessert. I'll go get it."
Haley waited happily.
Maybe it was because she had just come back from the hospital after being sick, the kids were extra considerate, and she was happy to soak it all in.
Soon, Owen came out of the kitchen with a six-inch chocolate strawberry cake.
"Mom, I asked the chef to add these strawberries because I know you love them."
Owen placed the cake on the table, carefully picked up a strawberry with a fork, and brought it to Haley's lips.
Maybe Owen didn't secure it properly, or maybe the strawberry was too heavy, but it suddenly fell and landed on Haley's dress.
A white dress with a chocolate-covered strawberry made quite a mess.
"I'm sorry, Mom!" Owen quickly grabbed a napkin to clean it up.
He was a bit clumsy, often spilling stuff on Haley. Usually, an apology would do the trick.
But suddenly, a strong force pushed Owen away.
"Don't touch me!" Haley stood up abruptly, her cold eyes emotionlessly looking at the pushed-away Owen.
