Haley smirked, curling her lips.
She had lived abroad with her two kids for four years and had faced situations like this many times.
Just as she was about to speak, there was a commotion at the restaurant entrance.
"Leonardo!"
"It's Leonardo!"
Hearing the voices, Haley looked up.
A man in a black cloak strode in from the entrance.
He was tall and slender, wearing a golden mask that covered his entire face, revealing only a pair of deep-set eyes.
Just by looking at those deep eyes, Haley knew this was a man from Country H.
Leonardo's gaze was sharp and piercing, sweeping across the room with a commanding presence. He seemed like a natural-born leader, with every glance carrying an intense sense of authority.
That gaze sparked a strange sense of familiarity in Haley.
It was as if she had seen it somewhere before.
York, who was holding Haley's chin, suddenly trembled.
He quickly let go of Haley and turned around, nodding and bowing. "Boss, what brings you here? Care to join us for a meal? How about I treat you today?"
Leonardo slowly turned, his eyes landing on York's face, then shifting to Haley.
Their eyes met, and the sense of familiarity grew stronger.
Haley's heart started racing uncontrollably.
She thought, ‘Why does Leonardo seem so familiar? Why is there such a strong sense of recognition?’
"Boss, this woman is a prostitute. She insisted on spending the night with me, saying it would cost a hundred bucks. I had serious business to attend to, so I turned her down," York explained, sweating bullets, scared of getting caught in a lie.
"Is that so?" Leonardo, wearing the golden mask, said slowly.
His pronunciation wasn't perfect, nor did he have the usual foreign accent; instead, it had the distinct features of the region.
This meant Leonardo had lived here for at least three years.
Haley pursed her lips.
She remembered the guards at the restaurant entrance had called this man Leonardo.
She had heard Thomas mention this name before, the new leader of the ungoverned zone. The previous two leaders had died at Leonardo's hands.
Leonardo was a tough character, but he genuinely wanted to govern this area well.
If she wanted to find Ivan, maybe she could team up with Leonardo.
As Haley was pondering, York spoke again, "Boss, this kind of disreputable woman is tarnishing the reputation of our streets. She should be locked up to keep her from tempting our men."
Leonardo looked at York coldly and said indifferently, "Guards."
As soon as he spoke, two guards at the entrance walked in, waiting for orders.
York's eyes gleamed with satisfaction.
Once Haley was locked up, he'd have free rein. He could do whatever he wanted with just a word.
"Arrest him and interrogate him thoroughly. Find out how many women he's harmed!"
York's smile vanished when he heard Leonardo's command.
When the guards' hands clamped down on York's shoulders like iron, he struggled. "Boss, why are you arresting me? I'm innocent! She seduced me; it's not my fault!"
"You coerced a woman into having sex in public, which is absolutely unacceptable in my territory," Leonardo said coldly. "Don't think you can fool me. Take him away!"
