Chapter 307

<Chapter>Chapter 307</Chapter>
"Is Mr. Owen around?" called out the delivery guy, holding the insulated container at the front gate of the suburban home.

Owen rushed over eagerly. "That's me. What's up?"

"There's a delivery for you. Please sign here."

After handing over the container, the delivery guy rode off, vanishing down the winding road.

Owen carried the container inside, lifted the lid, and immediately recognized the scent. Tears began to flow uncontrollably.

"Hey, Owen, what's with the waterworks?" Alfred asked, handing him a tissue. "Is this Haley's dinner delivery? Come on, don't cry. It's best eaten warm."

Through his sobs, Owen managed to say, "Haley's really not coming over anymore. Why won't she come? I miss her so much. I miss Angela. Alfred, what did I do wrong that Haley won't talk to me anymore?"

Alfred was at his wits' end, too. He had no idea how to explain it all.

As he was pondering over the situation, a black car pulled into the driveway. Ivan was back.

"Owen, stop crying, bud. Mr. Ivan is back," Alfred urged.

Owen lifted his tear-stained eyes as he saw Ivan and Keith step out of the car. He noticed Keith holding a pink dress-up doll set, the kind of toy a little girl would adore.

Keith had bought a toy for Angela, but she wouldn't be coming over to their house anymore.

Keith walked in with the gift box. When he saw Owen, he frowned and asked, "Why are you crying?"

Owen's tears made him uncomfortable, a peculiar empathetic response between the twins.

"Haley and Angela aren't coming over to our place anymore!" Owen clung to Keith's neck, sobbing. "It's because Father made Haley mad. She said she's never coming back."

Keith looked up at Ivan, who had followed him inside.

Ivan's expression was cool, his demeanor carrying an air of sternness. He hadn't expected the woman actually to stop coming around.

Trying to ease the situation, he said, "Stop crying. I'll give her a call."

Owen's cries ceased in an instant as he looked up with his big, tear-filled eyes, stammering, "Father, just say sorry to Haley, and it'll be okay. She won't hold a grudge."

Ivan was exasperated. He had done nothing that warranted an apology.

Sure, the incident from five years ago was a mistake, but he didn't find it necessary to apologize to that woman. She was nothing to him.

Ring, ring—

After two rings, the call was answered.

"Hello, Mr. Ivan. Is there something I can help you with?"

The woman's cool voice came through the other end of the phone, leaving Ivan momentarily at a loss for words.

He hesitated before saying, "Owen told me to call and say the meal you sent over was delicious. Thank you."

Owen hadn't even started eating yet. He didn't even know how it tasted like.

"There's no need to thank me; it's what I should do. I'm a bit busy, so I need to hang up now."

Ivan parted his lips to respond, but before he could, the call had been disconnected.

Owen's eyes widened. "Father, why didn't you apologize to Haley? Call her back!"
