Chapter 891
Haley strolled over and gave Ivan a light pat on the back, finally getting him to chill out.
He pressed his lips together and said, "The surveillance footage is probably toast. Get a hacker to dig it up and make sure to track down Martin for me."
After hanging up, Ivan was still fuming.
"Don't sweat it," Haley said softly. "A guy like Martin would never be cool with being locked up forever. He must've been planning his escape from day one."
Ivan held her cold fingers and said in a low, gentle voice, "Haley, if you hadn't planned to talk to Martin, I might not have noticed he was gone until tomorrow or the day after."
"Ivan, now's not the time to beat yourself up," Haley reassured him. "We need to figure out where he might be hiding."
Ivan's face was tight, jaw clenched, and he said slowly, "He'll head to Watertown."
A nasty suspicion crept into his mind. Martin hated him, so it made sense he'd come to Watertown for payback. But Ivan was more worried Martin was coming for Haley.
Ivan instinctively pulled Haley into his arms. "From now on, we can't be apart for even a minute."
With the original data of the Bio-intelligent Chip, it would be too easy for Martin to mess with Haley.
"Ivan, chill, he wouldn't dare," Haley forced a smile. "If he comes for me, he'll definitely run into you. He's not dumb enough to walk into a trap."
Haley and Ivan hugged tight, the mood heavy. As the sky got darker, Ivan finally let go of Haley around 11 o'clock.
"Haley, it's late. You should get some rest. I'll stay in the next room."
Haley nodded and obediently went into her room. As soon as she got in, she checked the balcony window. Then, she moved the dressing table to block the door to the window before finally breathing a sigh of relief.
Just as she finished all this, Martin's voice popped into her mind. "Good girl, Haley, open the balcony door."
Martin's voice kept echoing in her head. Haley clenched her palm tightly, fighting against Martin's voice.
The more she focused on resisting, the more her head pounded, like it was gonna explode. Suddenly, a metallic taste filled her mouth, and she coughed up a mouthful of blood.
Her body weakened, and Haley's spirit crumbled. With blood still on her lips, she walked to the balcony, moved the dressing table, and unlocked the door.
Martin walked in, bringing the chill of the night, and then drew the curtains.
"It's so heartbreaking." Martin's hand gently brushed her lips, wiping away the blood. Haley tried to dodge but couldn't escape. Her chin was gripped tightly by Martin's hand.
"You'd rather spit blood than let me in. Haley, does Ivan know how much you've sacrificed to stay pure for him?"
Haley's eyes blazed with anger. "Martin, if you've got the guts, just kill me."
"How could I bear to kill you?" Martin chuckled. "Do you know why I came back to Watertown? First, to teach you a lesson and show you the consequences of betraying me. Second, the grudge between Ivan and me needs to be settled. I want you to kill him for me."
Haley clenched her back teeth.
"But Ivan is my own brother. I can't just kill him," Martin said, lowering his head to sniff her neck forcefully. "If you make me happy tonight, I'll let Ivan live a few more days. Is that a fair deal?"
