Chapter 896
Bryan's eyes were blazing with anger.
It was crystal clear who was throwing a wrench in this project. No need to rack his brain; Hollis was up to her old tricks again.
He just couldn't wrap his head around why Hollis kept messing with him.
First, she stirred up Lester and Maurice, then she snatched their project manager, and now she bribed these folks to bring the project to a screeching halt.
The petrochemical project had an eighty percent shot at success. Why did Hollis have to play dirty?
Bryan clenched his fists and turned to leave.
Just as he took a step, he spotted Haley and Ivan strolling over from the rest area. Bryan's eyes popped wide open, "Haley, what are you doing here?"
Haley gave a sly smile, "If I didn't show up, how would I know some people are causing so much trouble?"
Her gaze zeroed in on the big-bellied leader. The sharp look in her eyes made him squirm, and he quickly looked away.
But as soon as he turned his head, he locked eyes with Ivan's even sharper gaze.
Ivan's lips curled into a faint smile, "Adrian, we meet again."
The big-bellied leader was Adrian Morgan, a guy who'd been around construction sites forever and had crossed paths with Ivan before.
As soon as Adrian saw Ivan's eyes, he felt like death was staring him down.
The scar on Ivan's face had mostly healed. His brows radiated authority, and his eagle-like eyes were as sharp as two cold knives.
"Mr. Winston." Adrian shivered, "What a surprise to see you here."
He walked over, trying to shake hands with Ivan.
Ivan gave him a cold stare, "I heard there's a problem with this project and it needs to be halted. What's the deal?"
Cold sweat broke out on Adrian's forehead, "Mr. Winston, why bother with such a small issue?"
"How about I call a few reporters over?" Ivan smiled, "Adrian, you can explain everything publicly, so no one gossips about you taking bribes."
Adrian's face went pale instantly.
The Winston Family practically ran Watertown. As a small-time official, he was like an ant compared to them.
If Ivan called the reporters, they'd definitely ruin him.
"Mr. Winston." Adrian pleaded with a forced smile, "We can sort this out privately. No need to make a big deal out of it."
"Since it concerns my wife, it would indeed be better to discuss it privately." Ivan nodded, looking all agreeable.
But Adrian froze. Ivan's wife? Didn't he and Haley get divorced?
Hollis had personally told him that Haley and Ivan were divorced, and without any backing, he felt bold enough to order the project to halt!
But now...
Adrian was sweating bullets. He finally got why Ivan was at this construction site.
He quickly said, "Mr. Winston, this is just a misunderstanding. The halt was just a little joke of mine. Lester, Maurice, there's no problem with this project. You can keep going. If you need any help, just give me a call!"
Adrian's attitude did a complete 180. Lester and Maurice were stunned.
They knew the Winston Group was powerful and that Ivan's words carried weight, but they didn't realize just how influential he truly was.
Haley smiled, "Thanks for understanding. Once the project is done, we'll definitely treat you to a meal."
Adrian gave a dry laugh and left with his entourage.
