Chapter 215

Emily was fuming with an intensity that threatened to shatter her from the inside out.

She was the “biological” mother to the Winston family's two young masters, the future matriarch of the Winston clan. What gave Haley the right to stand by Ivan's side, usurping her place?

Why was she the one being ousted?

"Miss DeRoss, Owen is still recovering from a serious illness; it's best if you leave now to avoid any emotional impact," Alfred stated, giving a small nod of respect.

Emily's gaze lingered on Ivan. The man hadn't even spared her a glance, not even for a moment...

Staying there would only add to her humiliation.

With that thought, she turned on her heel and strode away. Alfred followed closely behind.

Haley cast a sidelong glance, observing Emily's vanishing silhouette. She hadn't expected Alfred to treat Emily with such deference, as if she were the lady of the house...

But Haley didn't dwell on it.

She bent down to scoop up Owen and whispered, "Owen, what you did just now wasn't right."

As soon as Emily left, Owen morphed from an enraged little lion to a docile kitten. He blinked and asked innocently, "What did I do wrong?"

"When you speak to anyone, it must always be with politeness," Haley gently stroked his hair. "Even if you detest someone, courtesy must prevail. Ignoring them is one thing, but losing your temper only shows a lack of composure. You're Owen Winston; shouldn't you embody grace and poise?"

"I get it," Owen said, touching his nose.

Truth be told, Owen usually carried himself with elegance, but something about Emily simply sets him off.

She was utterly loathsome!

He'd rather not bring her up in front of Haley again.

Changing the subject, Owen chattered away, "Haley, the noodles you made for me last time were so tasty. Could you make them again?"

Haley nodded with a smile.

From the shadows, Todd's voice emerged teasingly, "Are you inviting my mom to dinner, or do you just want her to cook for you again?"

Owen was taken aback, "Um, maybe next time then."
Haley chuckled, "It's just whipping up noodles, Todd; no big deal. We can't talk to people in such tone, you know."

Todd pursed his lips and fell silent.

He didn’t object to his mom heading to the Winstons', mainly because he was eager to see Keith.
The challenge he threw out there had vanished without a trace, and he was itching to find out what was wrong...

They all piled into the car.

Ivan took the wheel, with one adult and three kids squeezed into the backseat.

Owen, ever the extrovert and bundle of energy, made sure the car was anything but quiet with his continual chatter.

Ivan glanced at the rearview mirror, surprised to find the lively scene in the car unexpectedly heartwarming...

Following right behind them was another car.

Emily sat in the backseat, her brows knitted with a chill that could freeze hell over.

Driving, Alfred shuddered involuntarily, gripping the wheel as he softly suggested, "Miss DeRoss, perhaps I should take you back to the DeRoss estate."

"Are you saying I can't go to the Winstons'?" Emily's voice was icy.

Alfred managed a wry smile.

Owen, for one, was sick of Miss DeRoss and wanted her to quit trying. Yet, she insisted on tailing them, and he could not for the life of him understand why.

And with the DeRoss heiress, Haley, there, he had heard enough about the sibling feud to dread the thought of them under the same roof...

"I left something at the Winstons'. I'll leave once I grab it," Emily said coolly.

Alfred sighed, resigning to drive on, though he slowed the car to a crawl...

At the Winston estate.

Five of them got out of the car.

Owen grabbed Angela's hand and led her toward the house, "Angela, I'll show you my room—it's got tons of toys. Transformers, remote-control cars, planes..."
