Chapter 860

"Mama, I whipped up this pasta myself to say sorry," Owen said, looking all kinds of guilty. "Last night, it was my fau..."

"Owen, step outside for a sec," Ivan cut him off. "I need a word with your mom."

Owen shot him a look. "Dad, I ain't done yet. Can you chill for a minute?"

"Nope, out." Ivan snatched the bowl from Owen, plopped it on the nightstand, and then grabbed Owen by the collar, tossing him out of the room. He locked the door behind him.

"Dad, you're such a jerk!" Owen yelled, hands on his hips, fuming.

Ivan sent a text with his back to Haley, then turned around. "The pasta Owen made ain't got nothing on mine. You sure you wanna eat it?"

Haley gave him a look. "What's so urgent you had to kick Owen out?"

"Not much," Ivan's eyes drifted to her neckline. "Just that it's not cool for Owen to see you like this."

Haley glanced down and saw her pajama top was a bit low, showing some of her bra.

Yeah, it was a bit much, but Owen was her kid!

Haley chucked a pillow at him. "You're jealous of your own son, Ivan!"

Ivan caught the pillow, grinning, finally looking a bit more relaxed.

Owen, still fuming outside, got pulled away by Keith. "Keith, let go! I need to say sorry to Mom!"

Keith sighed. "Dad texted me. He said not to bring up last night in front of Mom."

Owen frowned. "Why?"

"No clue. Just do what Dad says," Keith said, trying to stay cool. "Mom won't be mad at you. No need to apologize."

"No way, I gotta say sorry! I messed up!" Owen huffed. "Dad just wants to make me look bad to Mom. Not happening!"

Todd walked over, looking serious. "Last night, Mom lost it. It wasn't your fault. If you bring it up, she might get upset again. Got it?"

Owen shook his head, confused. "I don't get it."

Keith chimed in, "Todd, do you know what really went down?"

Todd pursed his lips. He didn't know either. But he knew Mom would never look at Owen like that or hurt him.

Mom had her issues, but Dad wasn't spilling the beans.

"Stop asking. I trust Dad's got this," Todd said, trying to stay calm. "Just act like last night never happened and keep it moving."

As the kids were talking, the bedroom door swung open.

Haley had changed into her regular clothes. She was holding the bowl of pasta, smiling. "Owen, I didn't know you could cook. This is pretty good, but maybe a bit more salt next time."

Owen beamed. "Got it, I'll keep at it."

"By the way, Owen, what were you gonna say? Go ahead, your dad won't butt in this time," Haley said, munching on the pasta.
