Chapter 230
A trip to the restroom shouldn't take this long.
"Ivan, go check on Haley, man. If you wait too long, you might miss your chance with her." Louis exaggerated the motion with his hands.
Ivan shot him a cold look. "What did you do?"
"I mixed Ms. Haley a special cocktail with a little something extra," Louis said, a suggestive smirk on his lips. "It's an enhancer you can't just buy with money. After the big favor I've done for you, how do you plan to thank me?"
Ivan's gaze turned glacial in an instant. He picked up the glass of wine Haley had sipped and sniffed it. Instantly, his expression darkened. In one swift motion, he doused Louis with the drink and stormed out the door.
"Hey! Are you insane?!" Louis wiped his face indignantly. "Mark, tell me he's lost it! I went to all this trouble for him, and he dares to pour drinks over me. He is pissing me off!"
Mark rolled his eyes. "Dude, can't you see? Ivan is serious about Ms. Haley. With your little stunt, it's as if Ivan schemed to entrap her... Maybe tonight could have been a success, but after this, whatever Ivan had with Ms. Haley is toast."
Louis stood frozen. "Is it too late for me to get out of here?"
...
The effects of the drug surged, leaving Haley feeling as if all her strength had been drained away.
The man blocked her path, and his grip on her wrist tightened.
The most devastating part of all this was that he was the man from five years ago who had claimed her. In other words, this was Todd and Angela's father.
Disgust and nausea washed over Haley. That night had ruined her life, and with it came a burning hatred for the father of her two children.
She summoned every ounce of her energy and slapped the man fiercely across the face.
Slap!
The sharp sound of her hand striking his face cut through the rolling waves of the sea.
The man, face paled with anger, hadn't expected her to lash out in her weakened state. Clutching Haley's wrist, he hissed, "Look at you. You're drunk and looking for a rich man to sleep with. This is just like five years ago. But since you're pretty, I'll look past the number of men you've slept with over the years."
He dragged Haley toward a nearby private room when suddenly, a tall, commanding presence appeared at the other end of the corridor. The temperature seemed to plummet with his arrival.
"Let her go."
Ivan approached, his grim expression chilling like a demon emerging from the depths of hell.
Upon seeing Ivan, Haley felt like she saw a lifeline. She had been planning to take the man by surprise while he was off guard, but now, all the fight in her had deflated. For some reason, she was absolutely certain that Ivan wouldn't let anything happen to her despite their hardly profound connection.
"Oh, Mr. Ivan." The man narrowed his eyes. He seemed to recognize Ivan. "We've met once in Xyleria, remember?"
Ivan scoffed dismissively. "Why should I remember a nobody?" His voice carried clear contempt, unapologetically mocking.
The man's face grew colder by the second. Even being a man of stature within Xyleria's top-class circles, he was taken aback by the disdain.
Before he could retort, Ivan was already close. With a swift move, his strong arm reached out, and Haley found herself enveloped in his embrace.
Ivan's cold eyes landed on the man. "Covet what's not yours again, and you can kiss your status in Cuenca goodbye."
Holding Haley, Ivan turned and left.
