Chapter 864
The Lumi Group building stands tall, a big shot in the business district. After years of hustling and grinding, the Lumi Group's got some serious clout in Watertown.
The race for the Lumi Group heir is on, and the place is buzzing like a beehive.
Bryan rolled up to the finance department with some papers in hand.
"Hey, Mr. Bryan Lumi, what's up?" The finance director grinned as he flipped through the documents Bryan handed over. "Oh, it's about the resort investment funds. Mr. Bark Lumi hit me up early this morning about this. I'll stamp and release the funds right away. No sweat."
Bryan nodded and waited, but when he got the funding slip, his face twisted. "The initial project investment is at least five hundred million dollars."
The finance director kept smiling. "I'm just sticking to the original plan that called for three hundred million dollars. The other billion in the company's account is tied up in the petrochemical project. I can't authorize more for you, Mr. Bryan Lumi. Hope you get it."
Bryan's face went dark.
The original plan did say three hundred million, but the revised plan, which got the green light, needed five hundred million for the first phase.
And that five hundred million was just the company's internal investment. Lester had to hustle up the other five hundred million from outside.
So, they needed at least a billion dollars this month to keep things rolling.
"Mr. Bryan Lumi, don't make this hard for us. If Ms. Lumi signs off, I'll gladly release the funds," the finance director said, lowering his voice.
Bryan got the hint. The company wasn't broke; it was Hollis who was blocking the finance department from coughing up extra cash for the resort.
Bryan pursed his lips and left the finance department to call Lester.
If Lester could snag more investments, they wouldn't have to deal with the finance department's BS.
"Mr. Bryan Lumi, the investors I know have already shot me down. Looks like Ms. Lumi got to them first," Lester said, sounding bummed out. "I'll try to hit up other investors. I gotta get this done for Ms. Deross."
Bryan's face got even darker.
The investors Lester, a marketing manager, knew were probably tight with Hollis; they might even be buddies.
If Hollis made a call, those investors would definitely bail on their project.
Hollis had them cornered.
"Lester, I'll go with you to lock down investments," Bryan said, his voice firm. "I'm Grandpa's only grandson. Those investors should give me some respect. Wait for me for thirty minutes, I..."
Before he could finish, his phone buzzed. "Lester, hang on, Haley's calling."
Bryan took a deep breath and answered Haley's call, trying to sound upbeat, "Hey Haley, how you feeling?"
"I'm almost better, but Ivan won't let me go back to work," Haley said. "How's the project coming along?"
"We just got three hundred million in funding. The offshore infrastructure can kick off today," Bryan said slowly. "I'll meet with Lester later and fill you in on the progress tonight."
Haley's eyes narrowed. "Three hundred million?"
Her initial estimate for the first phase was a billion, with five hundred million from the Lumi Group's finance department and another five hundred million to be raised by Lester.
Why had Bryan only secured three hundred million?
