Chapter 1037
Camilla spent five hours completing her full-body checkup and decided to wait three days to get all the results together.
The sun set in the evening, and the lights came on. The hospital entrance was always crowded with cars and people.
Camilla turned to look at Ivan beside her. "Mr. Winston, thank you for today."
The president of the Winston Group, typically always busy, had taken half a day to accompany her for the checkup. This gesture softened her initially resistant heart.
If Ivan really had ulterior motives, his efforts were enough to make any woman's heart flutter. However, she was not an ordinary woman.
"It's getting late. I'll head back now. Mr. Winston, goodbye."
"Is this how you thank me?" Ivan's thin lips parted slightly. "I've been busy all day, and I'm hungry."
During her checkup, he handled all the hospital communications, filled out forms, and collected test results. He ended up more exhausted than she was.
She smiled and said, "Mr. Winston, what would you like to eat? My treat."
"What do you want to eat?" Ivan looked at her gently. "I know a good restaurant nearby. How about trying it?"
"Sure, let's go."
The restaurant wasn't far, so they walked there. As night fell, the sky sparkled with a few stars.
Walking down the street with Ivan, Camilla actually wished this road could go on forever. How could she have such a terrifying thought?
"Watch out!"
A car sped by, and Ivan quickly wrapped his arm around Camilla's slender waist.
Camilla was pulled into Ivan's embrace by his strong arm. Her face hit his chest, and she could hear his heart pounding wildly.
She looked up in surprise just as Ivan lowered his head, leaving their lips less than a fingertip apart.
Her heart almost jumped out of her throat.
Ivan's hand caressed her lower back, and his head slowly lowered.
Camilla forgot to step back. She just watched as Ivan's lips came down and covered hers.
His lips were very cold while his breath was extremely hot.
Her legs quickly went weak, and her arms instinctively wrapped around Ivan's neck.
The piercing sound of a car horn brought Camilla back to her senses. She turned around in shock, realizing they were in the middle of the street!
Neon lights flickered, and countless people were looking at them.
"You..." Camilla's voice was hoarse.
She took a step back, but she almost fell since her legs were weak.
Ivan caught her in time. "Haley, let's be together."
"No, no way!"
Camilla's mind felt like mush. Her remaining rationality told her that she couldn't get involved.
But just now, she had kissed him. How could she become the mistress she despised the most?
"Mr. Winston, I need some time alone. Don't follow me!"
Camilla struggled out of Ivan's embrace and ran away.
Those words echoed in Ivan's ears like a curse. Four years ago, Haley had said the same thing before disappearing.
This time, he wouldn't let the tragedy repeat.
Ivan followed her but didn't get too close, maintaining a distance of about twenty steps.
It wasn't until she reached a quieter, tree-lined path that she realized Ivan was still behind her.
She turned to look and met Ivan's ocean-like eyes. His eyes were filled with affection, longing, reluctance, and various emotions intertwined in his gaze.
She even wondered if she and Ivan had known each other before. Otherwise, why would he be so deeply in love with her?
But why would he pretend they had never met?
Camilla's mind was a tangled mess. She didn't dare think further and quickened her pace to rush home.
In less than twenty minutes, she reached the building. She looked back and noticed Ivan still following from a distance.
Ivan stopped a short distance from the apartment.
Under the moonlight, the roses' petals had a faint pink hue, falling one by one onto Ivan's shoulders.
The subtle fragrance seemed to carry unspoken love.
Camilla turned and went upstairs. She watched from the living room balcony's shadow.
She saw Ivan standing downstairs for a few minutes before he left while making a phone call. She finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She shouldn't have gone to The Winston Manor today; things had spiraled out of control.
But if she hadn't gone, she wouldn't have seen the four children of the Winston family, who liked princes and princesses from a fairy tale.
"Why are you back so late?"
Nicole opened the door and came out, looking exhausted and dejected. She was wearing loungewear, her hair was messy, and her makeup was smudged.
Camilla looked at her. "Weren't you on a date today? What happened?"
Nicole gave a bitter smile, her voice tinged with sarcasm.
She casually tugged at her hair. "I'm hungry. Let's go out to eat. I want to drink a little too."
Today was the darkest day of her life. She needed to drown her sorrows in alcohol to find a moment of relief.
Camilla sighed. Today was the most out-of-control day of her life. She also wanted to drink and clear her mind.
Just as Camilla and Nicole were about to leave, there was a knock on the door.
"Must be Micah," Nicole said as she opened the door, only to find a delivery person with a large box.
"Miss Jenkins, your dinner has arrived."
Nicole took the items. "Why didn't you tell me you ordered dinner?"
She opened the bag and her eyes widened. "Lobster, abalone, foie gras from Country Y... And there's steak and grilled chicken wings. Camilla, why did you order so much food?"
Camilla was a bit surprised. She walked over and found the order slip. Besides the dishes, there was a note: [Haley, eat well and rest early. See you tomorrow.]
Camilla's feelings grew even more complicated. How could Ivan be so considerate?
She had run away halfway but Ivan had even ordered food and had it delivered to her.
