Chapter 321
Haley's once steely heart softened gradually.
Holding Owen's chubby little hand, she whispered, "I like you a lot too..."
There was a twinkle in Owen's eyes as if a galaxy shone brilliantly within his gaze.
Unable to bear the sight and suppress her tears any longer, Haley turned away.
She flipped through the photo album, smiling tenderly. "Owen, tell me about some fun times you had with Keith when you were kids."
Owen propped his chin on Haley's knee. "My brother is too stuffy, like a little old man. I had no fun with him as a kid. Haley, Keith might be dull, but he's never had ill intentions toward anyone. And he really likes Angela. He would never hurt you. If anything happened, it must be a misunderstanding..."
Haley stroked his hair. "I know Keith means no harm."
Owen sat up earnestly. "Haley, I want to apologize on behalf of my brother. I hope you won't hold it against him, and please don't ignore me because of what he did, okay?"
He gently tugged at Haley's sleeve with caution.
With a laugh, Haley replied, "Why would I ever hold a grudge against a four-year-old?"
Keith had stood up for Emily because he believed she was his biological mother.
Emily's ability to assume that role reflected her sterling performance as a mother, fixing the shortcomings of Haley's motherhood.
If only Haley had been stronger and wiser that night four years ago, she wouldn't have been separated from her children for so long.
"Haley, why are your eyes red again?" Owen asked with concern.
Haley shook her head. "It's nothing. Let's keep looking at the photos..."
Turning each photo was like reliving the seasons with the children, watching them grow from infants into kids.
In the Winston Group, the atmosphere in the conference room was tense and oppressive. Everyone bowed their heads, their faces etched with caution.
Ivan tapped her distinctively articulated fingers on the surface of the desk as she sat at the head.
Luke stood up, his voice low. "Mr. Winston, everyone is present. Shall we commence the meeting?"
Ivan's brows furrowed. "Has the representative from Star Technology arrived?"
"Good morning, Mr. Winston, I'm Ariana, Assistant General Manager from Star Technology," Ariana stood, speaking respectfully, "I have been entrusted with full responsibility for the A-F Project's third review meeting by Haley."
She didn't finish her statement before the temperature in the conference room dropped several degrees. She instinctively drew her neck in.
Ivan had visited Star Technology a handful of times before, engaging in delightful conversations with Haley. She always thought Ivan was quite approachable.
But now, surrounded by the stern faces of the board members, Ivan's icy demeanor revealed to her a fear more intense than rumors had suggested.
Ivan pursed his lips, his gaze lowering frostily.
Was this woman planning to avoid him indefinitely? Not even granting him a chance to meet.
He pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
It wasn't until the dial tone echoed that Ivan realized what he was doing. He was about to confront her over the phone for not showing up... Had he lost his mind.
But the call was made, hanging up abruptly was not his style.
"Hello, Mr. Winston?" A chill yet slightly hoarse voice answered from the other side.
