Chapter 833
Ruby was fuming, her chest rising and falling with anger.
Brenda put down her teacup. "I never meddle in Haley's business, let alone yours."
"Who does she think she is, acting all high and mighty as Ivan's wife?" Ruby hissed, her voice dripping with resentment. "I introduced you to a girl who was super obedient before Ivan got hitched. If she had married Ivan, she'd be taking great care of him and respecting the elders, unlike Haley, who can't even show some respect to her mother-in-law."
Brenda's face stayed blank, her mind wandering elsewhere.
Things had gotten so bad between her and Ivan that they could go a whole week without saying a word to each other. Haley, who was supposed to be the go-between, never even tried to smooth things over. If it had been the girl Ruby introduced, things wouldn't be this messed up.
She knew it wasn't really Haley's fault, but she still wished Haley would do more.
Ruby's grumbling downstairs inevitably reached the master bedroom. Haley knew Ruby was complaining but couldn't catch the details.
Snuggled in Ivan's arms, Haley softly asked, "Ivan, was I too harsh with Ruby just now?"
"You did the right thing," Ivan said, holding her close. "I know Ruby. If you give her a warning shot this time, she won't dare badmouth you again."
Haley wrapped her arms around Ivan's neck and said, "What if I end up fighting with your mom someday?"
Between Ruby and Haley, Ivan would pick her without a second thought.
But what about between her and his mom? Would he still have her back?
"I told you, you're always right." Ivan leaned in and kissed her, "No matter what, I'll always be by your side."
Haley's heart melted.
She kissed him back deeply and sighed, "Ivan, your mom's not doing well. I told you before, you should talk to her more when you have time. Maybe you can help her sort out her feelings."
Ivan's face darkened a bit, "My mom's worried about Martin. As long as I keep Martin locked up, she'll be happy. But I can't let a dangerous person go free, so she will have to deal with it."
Haley stayed quiet.
She couldn't ask him to forgive Brenda without going through all this.
Honestly, she couldn't forgive Brenda either.
Maybe time would heal everything. These grudges and messes in life should be left to time.
"Alright, stop thinking about it." Haley tilted her head up and kissed Ivan's chin.
Ivan flipped over, pinning her beneath him, and softly asked, "Are you up for making love?"
Haley snorted, "If I said no, would you really let me go?"
Ivan chuckled and lowered his head to kiss her.
As things heated up, Haley pushed against Ivan's chest at a crucial moment. "Condom."
The trauma of giving birth in the Deross family warehouse had left a deep scar on Haley. She never wanted to go through that pain again.
Ivan kissed her sweaty forehead and put on a condom.
He knew childbirth was a brush with death. They already had four kids, both boys and girls, and didn't need more.
As he moved, Ivan thought he should probably get a vasectomy. That way, they wouldn't have to worry about pregnancy.
Even with a condom, there was still a small chance Haley could get pregnant.
Haley wrapped her arms around Ivan's neck, eyes half-closed, enjoying the moment.
Just then, a voice that wasn't hers echoed in her mind.
"Leave him!"
"Leave him!"
