Chapter 385
Haley reminisced about the night four years ago, the night Keith and Owen were born.
They had emerged from her womb one after the other, as tiny and delicate, their faces lacking the chubby cheeks typical of newborns. Their features were delicate, their cheeks sunken, making them appear thinner compared to other newborns.
Now, looking back, she realized the lean outlines of the boys bore a striking resemblance to Ivan.
Her hand gently caressed Keith's face. This was the first time she had been so close to Keith, her eldest son.
Her hand shifted to the furrow between Keith's brows, noticing the deep wrinkles etched there from worry.
This child was too smart and burdened with far too much.
"Don't! Please, no..." Keith suddenly mumbled in his sleep.
Haley took his hand and whispered, "Keith, don't be afraid. Mommy's here, and I won't let anyone hurt you."
She bent down and kissed his forehead.
Feeling reassured, Keith drifted back into a deep sleep.
Only after ensuring Keith's rest did Haley quietly exit the room and make her way downstairs, careful not to disturb anyone.
"Owen, it's late; we should head back. I'll come see you again tomorrow, okay?"
Owen had been uneasy all evening; the more anxious he felt, the less he dared to throw a tantrum.
He politely escorted Haley and her three children to the door, waving gently as they left." See you tomorrow, Haley."
Haley returned his smile with tenderness before getting into the car, which then started gliding smoothly down the road.
Angela was exhausted, asleep on Todd's lap. She didn't rest easy, occasionally stirring.
Todd cradled Angela's head with his hand, careful not to let her bump or jostle herself.
He lifted his head, his voice deep. "Haley, is Mr. Winston really all right?"
Haley feigned ease. "He's not critically injured, nothing serious. The doctor said he'll be discharged in three to five days."
"Then, Mommy, what are you thinking?" Todd asked softly, "Mr. Winston is Angela's and my biological father, and Mr. Winston's son is also your biological son. So, Mommy, what are you planning to do next?"
Haley gazed down the road, a rare look of confusion in her eyes.
She seldom felt uncertain; she always knew which path to take when it came to whatever she needed to do.
But now, she truly didn't know what to do.
She began, "Todd, what about you? What are you thinking?"
"I..." Todd hesitated, unsure of how to articulate his thoughts.
While reading, Todd often found it easy to comprehend the knowledge they contained. Yet, there were moments, especially when reading romances, where he struggled to grasp the emotional dynamics between the male and female characters.
Similarly, in the present situation, he couldn't decipher Haley's true feelings toward Ivan.
He said, looking down, "I had some misunderstandings about Mr. Winston before, so I didn't like it when you spent time with him, but now... those misunderstandings have been cleared up, and I think he's quite a decent man. If you decide to be with him, or even marry him and start a family, whatever choice you make, I'll support you unconditionally."
'Marriage? Starting a family?'
Haley was taken aback; she hadn't really thought that far ahead.
The only thing she was considering was whether or not to continue being Ivan's girlfriend.
