Chapter277
Flora's remark was met with a casual but pointed response from Haley, yet she still flashed a smile and asked, "Haley, why did you come back alone? Where are the kids?"
Mrs. DeRoss leaned on her cane as she made her way out, her aged eyes searching beyond Haley. Disappointment was clear in her voice. "You didn't bring the kids back with you?"
As people get older, they often enjoy the lively company of their grandchildren. Mrs. DeRoss had even prepared gifts for such a reunion.
Haley offered a gentle smile and helped Mrs. DeRoss to a seat. "The kids are a bit shy around new faces. I'll bring them next time. How have you been feeling, Grandma?"
Mrs. DeRoss cleared her throat. "You always say that."
Haley looked around but didn't see Emily.
Lowering her gaze nonchalantly, she asked, "Where's Emily? I haven't seen her around."
"Emily's been focused on her piano training. A renowned maestro noticed her and brought her abroad for a tour," Flora said proudly. "She has a real gift for the piano. The maestro said that after this tour, Emily could become one of the country's leading young pianists. She's got a bright future."
Haley smiled sarcastically.
Years ago, the DeRoss family had enrolled her and Emily in the same piano classes with the same teacher. No one knew Emily's true level better than Haley.
However, it was pointless to dwell on such matters.
She took her seat at the dining table. "Since everyone's here, let's start dinner."
After the meal, she still needed to pick up the kids from the Winston residence.
"Isn't there anything you'd like to explain to us?" Frank sat down with an air of authority; anger written across his face.
Haley responded coolly, "Dad, if there's something specific you want to know, just ask."
Frank cut to the chase. "The twins you gave birth to five years ago. They were supposed to be dead. What about them?"
"Why don't you ask Emily?" Haley reclined back in her chair. "She ought to know the situation of my children far better."
Flora's eyes flickered coldly, and she gave a hollow laugh. "Haley, that's a bit unfair of you. Emily was showing concern for you. If it weren't for her, our family would still be in the dark about your two children. Emily told me that those kids belong to none other than Mr. Jeremy, the Chairman of Chase Group."
A sharp glint flashed in Haley's eyes as she abruptly met Flora's gaze.
No wonder Jeremy came knocking out of the blue.
It turned out Emily spilled the beans about her kids.
She sneered, "They're my kids, and it's none of your business!"
"It is our business," Flora chuckled. "Mr. Jeremy reached out, wanting to reconnect with his children and bring them back to the family. Since everyone is here today, let's have a thorough discussion."
