Chapter 129 The New Manager

"Auntie, marriage should exist out of love," Catherine's lips curved into a smile.

"Without love, marriage is a grave. Of course, Ivan wouldn't want to build a grave for himself just for the sake of the children."

Mrs. Winston shook her head, not saying anything.

After so many years in Australia, she had long lost control over her son. Whatever she said had no meaning.

"Auntie, I really like Ivan's view of love," Catherine suddenly looked down and smiled. "I've known you for so many years, and I hear Ivan's name every day, but it's like I've never seen him before. Do youhave a picture of Ivan?"

Mrs. Winston glanced at Catherine.

Four or five years ago, Catherine appeared in her life. She would come to see her every day, and she would confide in this twenty-something young girl.

Even the misunderstandings between her and Ivan, she had told Catherine everything.

If Catherine became her daughter-in-law, then the misunderstandings between her and Ivan would surely be eased because of Catherine...

But—

Ivan had two children. Would Catherine, a beautiful and delicate young girl, be willing to become their stepmother?

...

In the morning, after dealing with the matters at the studio, Haley went downstairs and drove to the DeRoss Group.

She was now the Client Relations Manager at the DeRoss Group, and since she held this position, she had to do a good job.

Carrying her bag, she arrived on the fifteenth floor. This was where the Client Relations Department was located.

The work area was quiet after the lunch break, with everyone in the office looking lethargic. Only when Haley walked in did people finally perk up.

News of what had happened at the DeRoss Group shareholders' meeting a couple of days ago had reached even the lower-level staff. While other departments remained unaffected, their client department had seen a change in management, with the current manager being demoted to assistant and a new manager parachuted in. The upheaval in the client department had put everyone on edge.

"Good afternoon," Haley greeted with a smile, easing the suspicion of the crowd, and walked into the manager's office. Once the door to the manager's office closed, the people let out a sigh of relief.

"Damn! Haley is actually coming to our department as the manager?"

"Eva was doing fine, but now she is getting replaced in her position. It's really unfortunate!"

"Eva became a pawn in the power struggle between the DeRoss family sisters. Now it's all about the DeRoss family heiress taking charge. We better be cautious."

Though news about Emily DeRoss's embezzlement had been suppressed, some well-informed individuals had caught wind, and now everyone basically knew that Emily DeRoss had been expelled from the board of directors and forced to step down as CEO. The one wielding power now was Haley DeRoss.

A female employee wearing a crop top coldly remarked, "Well, don't forget that Emily is the heir to the DeRoss Group!"

As soon as she spoke, the surrounding employees fell silent. This was Mia Moore, Emily's best friend, who had been forcibly assigned to the client department by Emily herself.

Although she had been in the client department for two or three years, she had never landed a single client. She didn't work hard or show much enthusiasm, yet she always ended up being recognized as an outstanding employee by the judges during quarterly evaluations, and received the highest performance award.

The people in the client department had grievances against her, but no one dared to voice them aloud because she was Emily's best friend.

"Emily is the second-largest shareholder of the company and also the heir. What can Haley achieve?" Mia Moore sneered. "She used these means to secure the position of the client department manager, and the first person to be discontented is Eva!"

Everyone addressed Eva, the manager, as Manager Eva, but it was only Mia Moore who dared to address the manager by her first name only, taking advantage of Emily's influence.

Before Mia Moore could continue, Eva approached, saying, "Why should I be discontented?"
