Chapter 435
After preparing dinner, Ivan changed into a new set of clothes and came downstairs. Although there were only three dishes, there were six steaks, which filled the whole table. Mr. Winston felt quite accomplished.
Six people sat down at the dining table, each with a plate of decent-looking steak in front of them. Ivan elegantly placed the napkin on his lap and said, "Let's taste it." Owen couldn't wait to cut a piece of steak and put it in his mouth. After taking a bite, Owen frowned and said, "It's too tough. I can't chew it..."
Ivan thought to himself, 'The chef said the steak was cooked perfectly; how could it be tough?'
Todd took a bite of the fish and commented, "The meat is fresh but it’s too salty."
Ivan thought the chef said two spoons of salt was enough, and he had added two spoons; how could it be salty?
Keith ate a shrimp and said, "The shrimp is cooked, but the sauce is a bit spicy."
Ivan thought the chef made the sauce, so he couldn't be held responsible for this!
Angela picked up a chicken wing and took a bite, then another. Ivan felt a little comforted...
However, Haley suddenly said, "Don't eat that, Angela. The middle of the chicken wing is still raw." She took the chicken wing out of Angela's bowl.
Angela pouted, feeling unhappy that her favorite food had been taken away.
Ivan thought to himself that it was time for him to say something. He cleared his throat and said, "The chef taught me how to make all this. I don't know why they turned out like this..."
He wasn't trying to evade responsibility. He was stating the fact. The chefs hiding in the kitchen remained silent. Mr. Winston had his ideas, and they couldn't do anything to change them, so they couldn't be held responsible either!
Fortunately, the chefs had anticipated that this would happen and prepared extra dishes for each course.
After the dishes were taken away, the servants brought out the new dishes again. This time, the children finally managed to keep down what they ate.
As Owen ate the chicken wings, he said, "You shouldn't cook anymore, Dad. What if you accidentally poison us?"
Ivan experienced the heart-wrenching taste of defeat.
Haley, on the other hand, was impressed, considering it was first time cooking. She smiled and said, "Your dad spent nearly two hours cooking this meal, Owen. Regardless of the outcome, you should say thank you."
Owen swallowed his food and reluctantly said, "Thank you."
"Here's the wine, and I found some fruit wine too," Alfred said, walking into the dining room with a few bottles of wine. "This Lafite has been stored in the house for over twenty years. We’ll finally use it today. These fruit wines were bought last year, and each young man can have half a glass."
Alfred took six tall glasses and poured wine for everyone.
Keith raised his glass of fruit wine and said, "Thanks for making dinner for us, Dad."
He clinked glasses with Ivan and drank most of the fruit wine.
Todd also raised his glass and tapped it against Ivan's. "Thank you, for the dinner, Dad. It actually tastes really good."
He sincerely meant it and tilted his head back to drink half a glass of wine.
Angela sweetly smiled and said, "I like it when you cook, Dad. Thank you, for cooking for me, Dad."
