Chapter 928
"Daddy, Mommy, Happy New Year!"The door swung open, and the four kids shouted in unison.
Haley's face lit up as she pulled out four gifts from behind her back. "Happy New Year to you too! Hope you all grow up healthy and strong."
"Thanks for the gifts, Mommy!" The kids grabbed their presents, their faces lighting up with joy.
Ivan walked over, his voice full of cheer. "You guys are five now, so I got something special for you too."
He pulled out four documents from a drawer and handed them over.
Owen was the first to jump up. "Daddy, you’re finally letting me manage a company!"
Owen had always been jealous of Keith, who had been in the family business since he was three. Now, he finally had his own company too.
"Angela, what did you get?" Owen leaned over. "A music store? Daddy, you’re too generous!"
He then saw that Keith and Todd also got companies.
Owen's excitement faded. "Now Keith and Todd each have two companies, and I only have one. "
"If you manage the company well, I'll give you a subsidiary at the end of the year," Ivan said calmly. "Otherwise, Keith will take over."
Owen straightened up. "Don't worry, Daddy, I'll manage it well."
Haley chuckled. "If you need help, just ask me."
"Thanks, Mommy!" Owen grinned, holding Haley's hand. "Mommy, let's go downstairs for breakfast."
Just after breakfast, the Landon Family came to visit. Even though Brenda had gone to Country Y, the Landon Family visited every year.
"Happy New Year," The four kids greeted politely. Despite any past conflicts with Ruby, no one wanted drama on the first day of the new year.
"You kids are so well-behaved." Ruby handed out gifts and said, "I thought Brenda would come back for the New Year, but I was wrong. Haley, families should be together for the new year. Why don't you go to Country Y and bring Brenda back yourself?"
Haley raised an eyebrow. "Ruby, you can't even manage your own family. Why are you trying to manage ours?"
Ruby's smile froze. " I'm just worried Brenda might be lonely abroad. Ivan, do you think I'm wrong?"
Ivan replied calmly, "Ruby, you should focus on your own family."
Ruby was at a loss for words and muttered coldly, "You've forgotten your mother now that you have a wife. Truly heartless."
"I heard Uncle Caleb hasn't been home this year. Is that true?" Keith chimed in, "Ever since Uncle Caleb got married, I haven't seen him. They say you don't get along with Uncle Caleb's wife, so he stays away to avoid making her feel bad. Isn't that what it means to forget your mother for a wife?"
The room went silent. Caleb Winston was Ruby's youngest son. Ruby's face was a sight to behold.
This was her sore spot. Ever since Caleb got married, he never came home. He only sent a greeting text each year.
"Enough." Landon glared at Ruby and said apologetically, "Ivan, Haley, we won't bother you any longer on the first day of the New Year. If you have time, come over for a meal this afternoon."
