Chapter 981

"Mom, after the banquet, I'll have Micah take you back to the mansion," Elara said right away. "You go in and rest first. I'll get someone to make a pot of tea and bring it over."

Camilla slightly furrowed her brows, swirling a glass of red wine in her hand.

Someone had deliberately brought Odette over to catch her and Brady in the act. Either ruin her reputation or force Brady to marry her.

Who could have set this up? The door to the room was gently pushed open.

"Camilla, what are you doing here?" Elara asked, surprised. "Are you alone?"

Camilla looked up and smiled lightly. "Who else should be here?"

"I was just curious why you're here alone," Elara stared at her for a moment. "There are so many guests in the front yard. What are you doing here?"

Camilla stood up and picked up a glass of wine. "I found a good bottle of wine in this room, and it tastes pretty nice. Want to try it?"

She held the glass out to Elara, gazing at her face.

She had no grudge against Elara. She couldn't understand why Elara would use Brady to frame her.

"I just had quite a bit to drink in the front yard." Elara frowned. "Camilla, if you're free, go check if the tea is ready in the backyard. Odette wants some tea to soothe her throat."

Elara didn't even ask about Brady's whereabouts. Camilla's face darkened as she looked at Samantha, who was standing a step behind.

Samantha's hands were nervously twisted together, her eyes slightly downcast, looking guilty.

Camilla handed the wine glass over. "Mother, would you like to taste this wine?"

"I..."

Samantha looked up, and in the guilt and unease reflected in her eyes, Camilla realized that the person setting her up wasn't Elara, but her foster mother, Samantha! But Samantha had always been trying to match her with Brady. Why the sudden change of plans?

"Camilla..."

Just as Samantha was about to speak, the bathroom door suddenly flung open.

Brady, shirtless and soaking wet, rushed out with a flushed face.

"Brady, what's going on?" Odette was completely stunned.

Elara quickly went up to him. "Brady, what were you doing in the bathroom? Why is your body so hot?"

"I accidentally fell asleep in the bathtub," Brady said. Having soaked in cold water for twenty minutes, his desire had subsided. He held his head. "Mom, can you get me a change of clothes? Grandma, I'll lie down next to you for a bit. Don't make any noise."

He collapsed on the sofa, closing his eyes to rest.

Samantha's face had completely changed. But no one noticed her expression.

"Mother, let's go outside and talk."

Camilla stepped out of the room. Samantha closed her eyes, sighed silently, and resignedly followed Camilla out.

"Camilla, I didn't mean to harm you." Samantha lowered her eyes. "I know you'll leave Brussville sooner or later, but I can't bear to let you go. If I had a son, I would definitely want you to marry him. But I don't, so I can only..."

Camilla let out a mocking laugh. "In order to retain me here, you ignored my desires and engaged in such absurd actions?"

"Camilla, I'm sorry," Samantha grasped her hand. "From the first time I saw you, I felt a special fondness for you. I've always wanted a biological daughter like you."
