Chapter 954
Haley's hair fanned out on the pillow, making her face look tiny. She was pale, with dark circles under her eyes.
Ivan knew she hadn't been sleeping well for nights. She'd toss and turn until she finally crashed around three in the morning.
"It's just sleep. I'll stay with you." Ivan's voice was soft, like a cello string being gently plucked or a spring breeze rustling through the trees.
Haley felt that breeze sweep over her heart, changing everything.
She looked up and suddenly wrapped her arms around Ivan's neck. Her soft, rosy lips brushed against his chin, then moved up to cover his lips.
Ivan felt heat spreading from his lower abdomen, and with a swift move, he took charge, kissing Haley fiercely from her lips to her collarbone.
Haley was kissed until she was dizzy, her breathing heavy.
Ivan stopped just in time, his voice hoarse. "Haley, don't tempt me. You know I can't resist you."
"I want you." Haley wrapped her arms around his neck, her delicate fingers unbuttoning his shirt. She felt uneasy and empty, longing to make love to him to ease these emotions.
She moved closer, wrapping her legs around his strong waist.
By noon, the sun came out, melting the ice and snow. Droplets fell on the leaves, splashing onto the ground, merging with the soil, nurturing the garden full of flowers and plants.
The winter sun peeked out for a bit and then hid behind the clouds again, and the afternoon passed leisurely.
Owen came downstairs looking dejected. As soon as he saw Angela, he rushed over. "Angela, I'm so miserable."
Angela closed the book in her hand. "Why are you miserable?"
"Keith gave me such a tough problem, and Todd made it worse. "
"But you made it out, didn't you?" Angela said with a smile, "Owen, you're actually really smart. If you think more, you'll definitely manage the company well."
Keith said calmly, "The plan you proposed isn't the best. After dinner, keep working on it."
Owen was silent.
Todd chimed in, "Your stomach kept growling so loudly, it was too distracting. Eat first, then continue."
Owen stayed silent. Angela covered her mouth and laughed.
Alfred instructed the servants to bring the food to the table. "Go upstairs and call Mr. Winston and Mrs. Winston down for dinner."
Just as he finished speaking, Ivan came out of the master bedroom, gently closing the door behind him.
Owen lowered his voice. "Daddy, is Mommy coming to eat?"
"Your mommy is still sleeping. She won't be joining us," Ivan said as he walked downstairs, moving quietly.
Alfred sighed, "Mrs. Winston had very little for lunch without eating breakfast, and now she's skipping dinner. How can that be good?"
Ivan looked up. "Why didn't she eat breakfast?"
"Oh! Mrs. Winston said not to let you know, and I let it slip," Alfred said.
Ivan asked calmly, "What happened?"
"This morning, Mrs. Winston ate a piece of beef you made and started vomiting. She turned pale," Alfred explained. "But she seemed fine afterward, so I didn't think much of it."
Ivan thought of Haley's earlier advances in bed and coughed lightly. Haley's body should be fine. He would personally make some food for her tonight.
Haley slept until past eleven at night. When she woke up, others were already asleep.
