Chapter 304
Chapter 304
Ivan's face was grim. He frowned, a chilling aura emitting from him. His lips were pressed tightly together, and although his presence seemed somber, Alfred also detected a hint of confusion.
'Does Mr. Ivan also have no clue what had just happened, or perhaps he knew but didn't know how to fix it?
Alfred scratched his chin, exhaling a troubled sigh. Soothing a woman's heart was not his forte; otherwise, he wouldn't have been single for decades.
The buzz of Ivan's phone interrupted his thoughts. It was Louis.
Typically, calls from Louis revolved around frivolity, and Ivan was preparing to dismiss it before he suddenly hesitated.
Louis was Cuenca's notorious playboy. He was never without a new girlfriend every few days. When it came to understanding women, no one could hold a candle to him.
Ivan pressed the answer button and stepped outside.
Half an hour later, Ivan arrived at ROCK Bar, where Louis and Mark had already started drinking.
"Ivan, what a surprise to see you here," Louis greeted, passing him a drink.
Ivan accepted the glass and sank onto the couch. With a stony face, he downed the drink and pushed the empty glass to Louis for a refill.
"What's the matter? Are you drowning your sorrows now?" Louis quickly topped up the glass and leaned in, whispering, "Don't tell me it's lady troubles that drove you to drink tonight?"
Ivan shot him a glare. "Shut it."
"Hey, we're all brothers here. What can't you share?" Louis settled beside him, slinging an arm around Ivan's shoulders, his voice low. "Let me guess, it's about Haley again, isn't it?"
At Haley's mention, Mark leaned in, too. "Ivan, I reviewed the technical core report Ms. Haley sent over. Man, it's impressive. We were all blown away, especially by that new programming formula she proposed—it's downright revolutionary." Mark went off in a stream of enthusiastic praise.
Ivan couldn't help but feel a certain pride swelling within him, the usual chill on his face thawing remarkably.
"Man, look at you!" Louis eyed him. "All because of Haley. Dude, a woman's got your emotions on a string. Come on, spill it. Is this just a fling, or are you in this for real?"
Ivan, clasping his glass, found himself at a loss for words.
'Just a fling? Or is this serious?'
He had never actually pondered that question. All he knew was an irresistible pull toward her as if some mysterious force drew him in.
"Damn, man, you've got it bad!" Louis read his expression. "You're seriously contemplating this, which means it's not something casual. Ivan, Haley's a mom, you know. You've got to nip this in the bud!"
With a frosty glance, Ivan retorted, "I have two sons myself."
Louis raised his hands in surrender. "Okay, fair enough. A love-struck Romeo and a willing Juliet, you're made for each other." He leaned in conspiratorially. "If you're such a match, then what's got you down tonight?"
Ivan took a sip of his drink and said in a low tone, "I mentioned Keith and Owen's mother, and suddenly she got mad. No matter how I explained, she wouldn't listen. Why is that?"
