Chapter 186

Keith thought that Haley had also planned to gain the trust of the entire Winston family through Owen. This woman's quite a schemer. Keith knew he had to be cautious...

...

Haley picked up the kids and went home. When she was cooking dinner, she received a video call from Owen.

"Haley, why didn't you come to see me?" Owen's voice was still weak, "I'm so bored here in the hospital all alone. Could you come keep me company? I want to hear stories..."

Haley shook the ladle in her hand, "It's too late today; I'll come see you tomorrow and bring you some cookies I've baked."

"You're the best, Haley!" Owen's enthusiasm was palpable.

Haley’s lips curled into a smile, "Get some rest now, and don't stay up too late, okay?"

"How about a goodnight kiss, then?" Owen puckered his lips towards the phone screen, a bandage still wrapped around his head, looking both pitiful and comically adorable.

Laughing, Haley pressed a kiss to her phone screen and then ended the call.
Carrying the freshly stewed soup to the dining room, she caught sight of her two children, their large eyes brimming with worry as they looked up at her.

"What's wrong?" she asked, a touch of surprise in her voice.

"Mom, I just heard Owen's voice," Todd said with a quiver in his voice. "Is he in the hospital?"

Haley pulled a chair and sat down, speaking softly, "Are you worried about him?"

Owen had only been to their house a few times, and each visit seemed to upset Todd more than the last.

It was clear to her that Todd really didn't like Owen, which was exactly why she hadn't mentioned to the children about Owen's situation today.

Yet, unexpectedly, Todd brought it up, his expression revealing an undertone of concern.

"I'm not worried about him..." Todd turned his head away and said, "It's for my sister, she's quite fond of him. I'm just asking for her."

Angela, with her wide eyes typically devoid of much emotion, indeed looked a bit worried.

Haley stroked the little girl's fuzzy hair and reassured them saying, "Owen was in a car accident this afternoon, but he's alright now. He'll be staying in the hospital for a few days for observation, so there's no need to worry."

Todd was taken aback, pressing for details, "Where was the accident? What time exactly?"

Haley set the tableware before answering, "Near the entrance of the DeRoss Group building, around 3:30 PM."

Todd's heart skipped a beat.

Owen had shown up at the preschool just before three, and only a half-hour later, he was involved in an accident.

If Todd hadn't sent Owen away, perhaps this wouldn't have happened. A pang of guilt surged within him.

"Mom, can we go visit him tomorrow?" Todd blurted out, then quickly added, "Angela must really want to see him. I'll go with her."

Haley, seeing through his concern, nodded with a smile, "Sure, we'll go to the hospital right after school tomorrow."

The next morning, after dropping the kids off at the preschool, Haley drove to her studio.

Star Technology. This was the name of her studio. Having been established just half a month earlier, it was beginning to find its footing.

No sooner did she settle into her office than her assistant, Ariana, reported in, "Haley, the representative from Transmedia Tech called and would like to have a meeting with you this afternoon to discuss a partnership."

Haley twirled her pen contemplatively, "Transmedia Tech?"
